Anyone know why dh's car door (Ford Puma, passenger side) won't open?

Bit of a long shot this as I know there aren't many Puma owners out there these days.

Anyhow. Dh's car key battery needed replacing. I took it along to the Ford dealer and had a new one fitted today. With the new battery it worked again. Then went swimming. Passenger door worked normally on leaving the car. When we came back it wouldn't open from the outside (bloomin' awkward when you're trying to put a 12mo into a car seat). I tried to open it from the inside and the handle went into some kind of mad electronic overdrive - whirring away, moving in and out, but still not opening. Got home, and it worked again.

Just been out to the car and the same is happening. The passenger door will not open.

The driver's side is fine, and the car locks/unlocks as normal, which it didn't before the new battery.

Has the new key battery done something awful to the door lock? Is it just coincidence? What is going on?

I'm thinking of not telling dh and making him think it is all his fault.

Bump. Ever hopeful....

Think a Fiesta has the same mechanism. May even be a generic door mechanism for all Fords.

They're not really children carrying cars though are they.

"They're not really children carrying cars though are they."

Really - we have 2 DS's and another on his way......and we will be able to fit all 3 in there - plus pushchair in the boot and shopping (mind you it will be DH that leans over to put the car seat/boosters in properly )

I'm delighted that theres another Puma driver out there in MN world.
We have a sensible but very, very dull Audi estate for transporting DS, pushchair, dog, etc but I much prefer driving the Puma. It is nearing the end of its natural life and I feel quite sad.

Oh, feel quite disappointed now.

Does it just magically stop happening at some point, or does it require expensive work at a garage?

I'm thinking it could be months before dh notices it, as he has no need of the passenger door. Unless he's reading this, of course.....

B**er. The car isn't worth spending money on. DH will just have to manage with only 1 door.
