NQC's Further Bike Repair Disasters ...

My ongoing saga of learning to do basic bike repairs continues. I have two new questions for any bike repair experts on MN:

  1. After a few problems, I looked at quite a new tyre and found I could see exposed wires at the edge, the bit that goes under the rim of the wheel. Obviously I've changed the tyre, but I wanted to know if this would be caused by a tube blowing, by me dragging the bike with a flat tyre, or by me misusing my tyre irons? (I've changed to plastic ones.)
  1. I was inflating the new tyre and found it was sticking out in places. I carefully deflated, tucked back in, inflated, tucked back in, etc. Got it working. Do you normally half-inflate and then check it's all tucked in? Or what?

Thanks ...
