as going to say is it a jackdaw, cos they like buidling nests in chimneys?
that's all.
no useful advice though

elasticbandstand · 28/04/2007 09:41

? chimney sweep

Flower3554 · 28/04/2007 09:42

If you light the fire then prepare some pastry they make a nice pie

Nbg · 28/04/2007 09:42

Oh bum.

Its one of those open fires, you know the old brick kind and theres a panel inside thats just screwed in.
I'm just wondering if I took it off if I could free it?
Am a bit scared though lol

Are you sure it's stuck? It's not just sitting on the chimney pot cooing and the noise is coming down?

Nbg · 28/04/2007 09:46

Well I did think that at first but I can hear flapping!

i'll bet it's just sitting on the chimney trying to make a nest nbg.

if you open the panal be sure to have sheets draped over the entrance you make to catch it or you'll have a very sooty brid loose in the house if he is back there

WendyWeber · 28/04/2007 09:49

I don't think there's room in a flue for flapping - sweep brushes are only about a foot across

Nbg · 28/04/2007 09:49

Oh I hope so.

I darent do it on my own and dh isnt back till this afternoon.
My dog will rip it to shreds if it sees it.

they sit on our pots all the time, but once one did get stuck down, and it was a case of reaching up and grabbing it. No other way if it has come right down.

If so, see it as you receiving a free chimney sweeping!

Nbg · 28/04/2007 09:53

lol

WendyWeber · 28/04/2007 09:54

Have you been outside to see if there's one on top?

southeastastra · 28/04/2007 09:55

i've freed a few from the fireplace. we got ours out by getting a big box that they can land in, actually we had to coax one magpie out with nuts. it's horrible isn't it

Nbg · 28/04/2007 09:56

Yep, had a look. Nothing there.

Its all quiet atm.

I hope it isnt there. If it is it will have to wait.
