Just moved to Peterborough - any good mums and toddlers groups?

Ds is 1 and after a week of being here is desperate for some baby company. Currently he's making do with shrieking with excitement at kids in the park. Anyone know any nice groups, I don't mind whereabouts in the city they are.

dh stunned by yearning to peterborough

deaconblue · 26/04/2007 14:32

Yearning is to family and babysitting tbh rather than Peterborough itself. Although now I'm here am pleasantly surprised by lack of traffic noise and fumes, seems so much cleaner than where we were

hi there, I dont live in peterborough, but i live around 18 miles away (and as peterborough is the nearest city I do know it quite well iyswim!) Although i go to toddler groups closer to where i live, I do know that Activity World (near boongate macdonalds) is quite good, and i have always found people there very very friendly, maybe it could be worth popping there and having a friendly chat with a few people?? hth

deaconblue · 27/04/2007 10:37

Thank you, that's a good idea. I've been there before with my nephew when he was younger and it does seem nice down there. Have found a local group that meets weekly so plan to try it next week. Whereabouts are you?

I am in Spalding,a little market town in lincs, if you like bargains, in spalding theres a centre called springfields retail outlet, there's quite a few shops which sell things (like m&s) at cheap prices ;) there is also an indoor play thingy (bit like activity world but smaller), and they have an outdoor park etc, alongside some nice gardens to walk around & and a garden centre.
Big Sky is also good in peterborough, esp for little ones when they start walking as the toddler section is all gated off, they also have a few table and chairs in the toddler section so parents can sit & chat etc whilst their little ones toddle about

Hi SBUE

I live near Peterborough, but don't generally do much in the city itself with the kids.
Activity World is definitely worth a visit (ideally outside weekends and school hols with your ds being so young), and they do have a separate toddler area.
Which side of Peterborough do you live? I might be able to fill you in a bit more if I know where you are!

coppertop · 27/04/2007 18:43

I'm in P'borough too. Are you from here originally?

Birdly · 28/04/2007 09:33

Me or shoppingbags? I'm not from here originally. I've been around a bit but have been in this area for over 10 years now. No plans to move!

deaconblue · 29/04/2007 18:32

Sorry, haven't had chance to come onto mumsnet all weekend. I am from Peterborough originally and have moved back to be nearer family now I have ds. Haven't lived here since 1992 when I went away to university though. We are now in Yaxley to the south of Peterborough.
Off to tumble tots in Stamford tomorrow to give that a try and then there's a mums and toddlers group at the local primary school to try on Weds.
Poor ds is sick of my company

Ha, I'm originally from Yaxley!! I might know you. There used to be a playgroup at Stretton Hall, next to the infants school. Might be worth finding out if it's still there.

deaconblue · 29/04/2007 20:22

Not the most glam location but our new house is fab and my mum lives on the same street! Will have a walk and look for that place tomorrow, cheers

I am a founding member of the Werrington Mums & Toddlers, which I think is still going.

When I say "founding member" I suppose it was my mum that did the founding and me that did the racing around on trikes, but you know what I mean. I am pretty sure that I heard that it was still going.

fisil · 29/04/2007 20:31

here you go

Tues & Fri 10 - 11:30 at Werrington Community Centre.

Oh, and I also have to confess to a yearning to move back to P'boro for exactly the same reasons as you!

deaconblue · 29/04/2007 21:13

ooh thank you fisil. Do you still pop back every now and then to do some trike racing?
It's been great so far. Sis had ds over night last night and we had our first lay in in a year this morning. Fantastic.

hi shoppingbags

there are loads of great activities at the children's centre in north bretton. it's one of several surestart centres in the city. it's not always easy to find out the timetable of events for our one, but they're published in a bimonthly magazine (footprints) - your hv might have copies?

there's also a good toddler / messy play session on a wednesday afternoon (1.15 - 2.45) at bretton baptist church (in copeland, south bretton)

have also been impressed with jesters (soft play) in werrington.

Birdly · 30/04/2007 07:21

There's a good playgroup on Tuesday mornings at Woodnewton village hall. It's called Woodentots and runs from 10am-11.30am during term time.
There's also a playgroup at Warmington village hall on Friday mornings, 10am-11.30.
Something goes off at Elton, too, but I don't know any info. Think it's Tuesday afternoons!

deaconblue · 30/04/2007 20:50

Thanks, would be good to find some afternoon stuff to do as he seems to want to sleep all morning at the moment.
