Wanted: as bar/restaurant in London for a 40th birthday party

It's my dh's 40th birthday in September and I want to arrange a surprise party for him. I'm looking for a venue that:

  • is child-friendly
  • will do a good, reasonably priced buffet at lunchtime
  • is pretty central (we'd be coming that day from Brighton area)
  • efficient to deal with by phone/email would be good as I live 200 miles away! Though I can get BIL to go in to check it out or whatever.
  • can cater for about 50 people

Any ideas, wonderful people?

There is a really lovely restaurant in the Angel. I will try and remember what it is called. It is greek type food, I seem to remember that they do private parties. I can't remember what it is called. Oh bugger, I will try and remember.

Oooh, thank you, please try and remember! Angel is good, we used to live in Stoke Newington.

Mem & Laz - Theberton Street. Can't find website or phone number but you must try and find it as it is a really lovely little place.

Thanks nogoes, I'll look into it!

Any more? C'mon you lovely Londoners...

You could try Mar i Terra, Waterloo. Really fantastic tapas. They have an upstairs room that seats 50, and do lots of different dishes for £17ph (before service, booze etc). We're going there for our wedding lunch, with 40 people. Might be a bit squashed with 50, and not much room for kids to run around in, but worth a look?

I would only recommend the Borough one, I've been to the Victoria Park one and it is very average.

Ooh, thanks catnip, I'll look into that!

More suggestions gratefully received!
