Hi, Just spotted your post and although I'm not from North Berwick (but I am Scottish and in Scotland) I didn't want to leave you completely unanswered.

I would recommend you re-post this in Scotsnet (it's listed under Other Stuff) and I'm sure you will get more answers.

There are lots of English people living in Scotland and for the most part I don't think there are issues but it would depend on where I guess. North Berwick is a desirable place and I am sure you will find plenty of other English people there :)

I moved to an area where we didn't know anyone twice, the second time more successful. Our first move was to a new build on the edge of a small run down town and although we made good friends on the estate, the town was a bit more difficult. We moved to the edge of a small city next and it's much more diverse and with many more "newcomers" and is a University city too which makes it less insular. I don't think NB is like the place we moved to first from comments I 've read. I'm sure I've been on threads where it's been recommended as a nice place to live.

Oh, and having small children definitely helps you to meet people socially.

Aw I used to love going to North Berwick as a child!! I'm Scottish and now living in England, but I remember having an English girl in my class who was well accepted.

I live two villages along. I'm English, there are loads of English in East Lothian. It's friendly here. I moved up knowing nobody but you get to know people after a while.

Currently lots of issues at the primary school in NB. Choose an outlying village instead.

Thankyou all. It's a lovely part of the world & we are very keen but as we know no one at all then it's a bit daunting as we would be starting again with no friends or family around.

What are the issues with NB Primary School?

Bullying going untackled and poor treatment of ASN kids. Too many pupils, massive building works on going for years, just a mess really. Council got a three day inspection team going in next week in response to multiple complaints. Avoid avoid avoid.
