Is there a knack to replacing a pushchair (or bicycle) inner tube?

I seem to be going round in circles, quite literally. I have managed to put the new inner tubes around the central metal bit, but can't get the tyre back over. I am not a bicycle person.
I found some black plastic levers in dh's repair kit but can't work out what to do with them. Are they the key to the problem?

try using a couple of spoons that you don't mind bending. Thats how i got the tyre over on the 3 wheeler wheel

I'll go and try that. It is driving me nuts, but I will not be beaten.

watch your fingers though!

Yes the black plastic levers are like the spoons. You need to put them both into the rim next to each other and then pull one of them round the tire and hopefully it will pop back in.

Try here for advice on how to change the tyre(i think you'll have to scroll a bit). You will need the black levers you found.

HTH.

I am losing the will to live, but will try again.

I have given up.I'm just not strong enough.
I'll have to wait for dh to do it, although ds will probably be walking by then.

I am v. lazy and take mine to the bike shop. they do it for me overnight and charge £5 a wheel (it's a P & T's). Is that extortionate? Am I being fleeced, or am I saving myself hours of hassle?

MuffinMclay · 19/04/2007 16:52

I would happily pay £5 (£10 here because it is 2 inner tubes) but can't get to the bike shop without the pushchair (no parking nearby).
