I'm feeling a little guilty, but I just had to do it.

My neighbour (behind us) started a bonfire at 3pm yesterday afternoon, I had to bring my smoke filled washing in, shut all the windows and brought the kids in from outside as smoke was belowing in our garden. Fortunately 1 hour later it started to rain, so that was the end of that.

Well at 1.30 today, he's just started another, flippin cheek, more smoke filled washing has just had to be brought in.

We live in a 'brown bin' area, so all of peoples garden waste should be placed in our said 'brown bin' and the council take it away. They are on their way out, to tell him to put it out.

It really annoys me, that some people just don't think - if you want a bonfire, you make sure 1. its at night 2. All people have windows and doors shut 3. No washing out.

I do hope he doesn't find out it me and come round and have a go, I'm on my own for a few days as dh is away working

My mil gets upset when her neigbours have barbecues, as the smell reminds her of living in India and the burning ghats, where they cremated bodies.

Which area are you in gold? My poor FIL was very upset to get a letter from the council the other day because someone had complained about his bonfire. He's in a rural area with a huge garden so there aren't many people to upset but there have been quite a few new people in recently. As he said, he can't bear the smell of the barbecues they have nearly every weekend which makes HIS washing smell bad....

(OTOH we used to have a neighbour who used to deliberately wait until I'd put my washing out before lighting his bonfire EVERY Sunday, so I can see both sides.)

This is a funny complaint, my friends nan lives in a rural area and at a community meeting a group of people complained about the farmers muck spreading. They said it spelt so bad that it was distressing them and could the farmers have some consideration! (they obviously were new to country living! This is obviously a draw back they hadnt considered!)
