I haven't, but my mum did, and she got a really nice letter back and an invite to a convention, which she went on and met loads of other people with similar tastes..... this was about twenty years ago and she still goes on the conventions and is still friends with people from them, even though the person who she wrote the intitial letter to died about ten years ago.

I think it is a lovely thing to do, I'm sure that even though we all assume they must know how good they are, they still probably appreciate someone telling them that they have made us happy.

Would you like to receive a letter saying how fab you were? I would and so would they, I imagine.

btw: Totally agree, John Cleese is great

Come off it pruni, you've already written and posted it and you're feeling coy now, well the horse has bolted

shall we have a game and I'll give you clues and you can see if you can guess?

I never have, but if anyone wants to write to Gerry Butler on my behalf asking for a photo (preferably of him with no clothes on), then feel free!

I wrote to a footballer when I was about 14 - I absolutely LURVED him (he wasn't a famous one or anything) and he sent me a little note and a poster of him back (signed) - I had these pinned on my wall for years.

This crush went on for years - I even dragged DH to a lower league game in York to see him (my parents live in Doncaster and we were visiting that weekend)

Even now, I wonder whatever happened to him......

fryalot · 16/04/2007 10:36

google him ceebee

Ceebee74 · 16/04/2007 10:41

I did - he went into non-league football and then now plays occasionally for the 'Old Boys' for the team he spent most of his career with - I wonder if he has a 'proper' job now though.

I actually saw him on Sky about 6 months ago playing in an 'old boys' tournament - oh, he was still gorgeous and brought back all those feelings (DH thinks I am completely bonkers!)

fryalot · 16/04/2007 10:41

who was it?

Ceebee74 · 16/04/2007 10:43

You won't have heard of him - he wasn't very successful!!

I wrote to Winston Graham (author of the Poldark books- could this be who squonk's mum wrote to?) many years ago and got a really nice letter back from him. I was quite thrilled.

Also wrote to Stephen King and got a reply from one of his minions. Hadn't expected a reply (I was commenting on one of his books) so even though it wasn't from him it was still nice to get an acknowledgment.
