today me and mieow passed a council bungalow which is 3bedroom and basically what we need. so i phoned the council to ask about it. one officier said it was allocated, another said it wasnt. so i went above the housing officiers and spoke to the housing servies manager. she said the bungalow was allocated on the 28th june to someone with 70points. at which point i lost it completely, as we have 80points. my housing officier had put down that we could only take a ground floor flat, which is bollocks as the letter sent to me said the points must be used for a ground floor property, not a ground floor flat. a bungalow is a ground floor property, we were at the top of the list for it, so it should have been offered to us. i am so stressed about it all. i cant belvie we have lost a chance of having the ideal home for our needs as the council have f*cked up so badly. My dh is getting worse, the stairs are getting him down, and if they leave us here he is gonna end up very ill.

3bed ground floor bungalows rarely come up, so it looks like we have lost our chance to move.

Yes youre right we wanted a bungalow and they are all just on the out skirts of the school. We have settled for a house which has a convenient layout and is v close to the school which means ds can walk to school on his own as sometimes I can't get up the hill and it is not even that steep! The council wouldn't even consider it and advised me to risk it (their words).Heart disease in young people really doesn't get the funding and recognition it deserves!!!!!!!!

Ok, sorta good news coming up.

just spoke to head of housing managment, he has been unable to get hold of the housing officier in charge of the area the bungalow is in as she has been out of the office all day, so i have her name and can call her if i wish when she is back tomorrow. if we get no joy with the bungaqlow, then next week (as the council for this area are moving offices atm) i can call mr head of housing managment again and he will get the 50 medical points which we can currently only use against a g/f property, changed so we can use them for a house!! which means we should be moved very quickly as we'd be at the top of the list!

Thats really good news-keep focused you'll get there

wobblyknicks · 22/07/2004 13:30

misdee - that sounds quite encouraging then!! Hope it gets sorted out soon, but don't stop having a go at them until you're totally happy!!

kalex · 22/07/2004 13:31

Oh misdee that is good news

I really hope you get the bungalow though

misdee · 22/07/2004 13:33

i said to him, can we get the points changed, he was a bit unsure, until i mentioned that this place has 30 steps from car park to bedrooms, and a house only has on average 13steps. also if the time came that dh cant get up the stairs then we would apply thro social services to get adaptations made to a house, where as this place isnt suitable to be adapted. he said, sure, call back next week and i'll see what i can do.

yippee!!

makes a change for me to be smiling about this situation i can tell ya!

Hopefully the other people will have turned down the bungalow. If not then I hope you'll be moving into the perfect house ASAP.

misdee · 22/07/2004 13:34

i really want the bungalow too.

mieow · 22/07/2004 14:05

Hope you get somewhere near me!!! The bungalow is about 5 mins drive away.... oh the fun we will have!!!

misdee · 22/07/2004 14:06

whispers but its near knella, think thats on a par with where i am atm.

OP posts:
mieow · 22/07/2004 14:46

whispers but Knella is better, just for the record no.24 mountway is empty, a house in mountway close is empty too (not sure of the number, think its 30 something) i'll keep my eyes peeled....

misdee · 22/07/2004 14:49

cheers. the closer the hospital the better. god, that sounds sad doesnt it. but it'll be easier. does hall grove surgery do blood tests there? or will he have to go to the path lab again? mind u, he says the path lab nurses are more gentle and dont bruise him as much as the one does at the gp's here.

OP posts:
mieow · 22/07/2004 16:20

Hallgrove don't do blood tests, so off to the hospital with him...... but being close to the hospital would be a great help for you, as it is for us!!!

nutcracker · 23/07/2004 13:30

Oh a bit of good news at last.
Regarding the bungalow though, as fas i know, if the people who got offered it don't accept it within 24/48 hours then the offer is retracted.

When i was offered that grotty masionette, they said i had 24 hrs to make a desicion. I got it extended to 48 hours, and then refused it. I got a letter within days, stating that because i had refused it, it wouold be passed on to next person on list, and i had my medical points remeoved.

So if it is the same sort of sysytyem then it would surprise me if the people who were oringinally offered it are still in the picture at all.

Good luck Misdee, hope you get what you so deserve

mieow · 23/07/2004 14:17

Me and mum went passed the bungalow today and its still empty and its had all the work done, new kitchen etc. Not sure how long this council wait though, and Misdee isn't in so I have no more news.....

misdee · 23/07/2004 16:07

i am so angry. my dh isnt disabled enough for a bungalow, but is too disabled for a house. hmmmm makes sense. The people who have been offered it need the adaptations inside it, but they also need more added to be able to live there so its gonna be a while b4 they move in apparently. if they refuse it then they would look at whoever else needs adaptions in a bungalow and offer it to them, regardless of where we are on the list. Because my dh doesnt need adaptions, just less stairs, and easier access to a property we are basically ahead on points but behind on needs. so we have no chance of getting a bungalow. so next week we are pushing to get our points changed so we can use them for a hosue, because otherwise we'll be waiting forever for a 3 bed g/f flat to come available, as there is about 16 in the district.
