will other supermarkets deliver for free if you spend enough? Ocado do, but they are not exactly the cheapest around

i pay for the privilege (once in a while!!) of someone else trawling the supermarket ,and bringing the food into my house for me, so i don;t have to drag recalcitrant children round tesco!

Hmm. Mr Sainsbury is starting to seem a bit more reasonable. It is going to be £2.50 if you spend over £75 and select Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for your delivery. Otherwise £5.

As you say lulumama, sometimes worth paying to make sure toddlers and supermarkets are not invited to get on well with each other.

Ocado charge me because I live in Central London. They claim it's to pay for the congestion charge but they only pay once a day but charge all their customers that day so they must make hundreds. Plus they also charge for the congestion charge if your delivery is at the weekend or in the evening when there is no congestion charge.

Grrr.

Asda and Tesco both charge more than that but if you Google you can usually find some kind of discount code which will cover it.

Yes, I switched to Sainsburys when Ocado added the congestion charge, and also started making substitutions. But now we have moved to the 'burbs, Ocado could be free. There have to be some advantages to the big commute!

try here for tesco (and other) codes . I usually get a fiver off fifty - which pays for the delivery depending what day you have it (£3.99 on Tue). Can't find many for Sainsbury though.

it compares baskets from Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda and Ocado (you just enter what you normally shop for and it does a running total from each supermarket. Then you choose who you want the delivery from.)

I find Tesco comes out considerably cheaper each time than any of the others, Ocado consistently the most expensive. The differences between all 4 supermarkets is quite surprising.

I find it's cheaper to shop online and get delivery, even paying £3.99 Tesco delivery. I don't seem to buy so much crap!

I don't see why I should pay for delivery. They get my custom every single week - usually about £80+

£2.50, that's good, Tesco charge between £3.99 and £5.99 depending on day of the week you get delivery.
like firstatforty, i always get it delivered, because even with the delivery charge it works out cheaper than us going into s supermarket. DH isn't seeing DVDs he "must" have, or I'm not looking at clothes

I don't even mind paying for delivery but we pay an additional central london surcharge to cover the "additional costs". I am going to look on that other website to compare Sainsbury's prices. Can't do Tesco though - am trying to avoid them.

Firstatforty, I've just done a mysupermarket shop and I am totally converted! Saved £6.90 using their suggestions AND got my free delivery. Also I cannot get over the difference in prices between the supermarkets, especially Ocado.

I started a similar thread a couple of weeks ago -The point is that mid week deliveries over £70 used to be free. They have only just started charging.
