Well, sorry, I am using Mumsnet unashamedly as a way of trying to get people to vote for SHERBORNE HOUSE, DORSET on next Sunday's Restoration at 9pm (that's the 25 July).

Sherborne House

It is a truly beautiful old house in a terrible state of repair. I started working there about 6 months ago (part-time - first job after having children!) and I love it so much. It would be heartbreaking if it had to be closed because it fell into complete disrepair. We run the ground floor as an art gallery and organise courses and art projects for local people, particularly disadvantaged groups (we are a charity) and schools.

All the houses/buildings on the show are amazing in their own way, but Sherborne House is so special to me as it gave me back so much confidence after not working for five years.

Sherborne is a tiny old town so we don't hold out much hope of winning the whole thing but it would be amazing to win the South West. So many people have worked so hard to raise awareness.

If you wanted to vote for Sherborne House, and therefore Enid! please phone 09011332222.

Calls can only be made on the morning of the programme (the 25th) and up until midnight on the following day. Calls will cost 50p of which 34p will go directly to the fund the BBC has set up to fund the winning building.

Thanks so much.

Ahh, I'd love to vote for you, enid, but I have to vote for me!! Can't tell you which restoration pile I have an interest in (I don't work there BTW) as it would give too much away about my sons school....

If I wasn't voting for me, I'd definitly vote for you!

enid · 18/07/2004 09:45

you can vote for me too! I'll vote for yours if you tell me what area its in. Is yours in the South West? If not then go on, vote for us in the South West - if we win that, we'll be happy. If you are in the south west, then grrr!!!

tigermoth · 18/07/2004 11:10

Ok I've now looked on the website and can see how the competion is run, so yes, I'll vote for you!

enid · 18/07/2004 11:11

cool!

That's very exciting enid - it's a such a grat programme. Did you see the final last time with the very elderly lady who had ben trying to get Victoria Baths (I think) restored for years? I will vote for you, love things like that. Good luck!

Marina · 18/07/2004 19:08

I'll vote for you Enid but you do need to vote for Tigermoth's and mine too...SE London's 'orrible folly in the woods.

codswallop · 18/07/2004 19:30

Im voting for Kings norton I think - ant effort to keep beautiful buildings in Brum

enid · 18/07/2004 20:10

You only have to vote for me next Sunday (25th) on the South West section.

Promise I'll vote for your SE folly and coddy I'll do yours too!

Our main rival now has Damian Hirst and various pop stars supporting it so we may not stand a chance...but still, hopefully the buildings will speak for themselves

Wilbur, it has been very exciting (its been going on FOR MONTHS but we have only just been allowed to talk about it), although everyone is really frazzled now especially as one of our competitors seems to have unlimited PR...still, i got to meet Griff although I wasn't working the day Ptolemy and Marianne came .

The most stressful bit is going to be tuesday 27th when they come to film our reaction and tell us whether we have won (the south west) or lost. Either or .

enid · 18/07/2004 22:09

Tigermoth and Marina, surely its in the bag

Will definitely vote for you, Enid

enid · 18/07/2004 22:37

pph, the science lab is still there, complete with blackboard with 'the last lesson' on it! Books laying around everywhere mixed with dead flies - v. creepy!

Thanks for the vote, that is brilliant

Enid - surely you can't be sad that you weren't there when Ptolomy came He drives me potty - to the extent that sometimes I have to change channels! He's such a plonker!!

I've probably put my foot in it as his wife/sister/mum probably posts on here, but honestly.....

I will vote for you too - it looks amasing - what a fantastic place to work.

Tetley · 19/07/2004 09:50

Er, that'll be 'amazing' - sorry can't spell today!

tigermoth · 19/07/2004 10:29

Yes, Ptolomy makes me cringe a bit, too. He might be knowledgeable but IMO he's also a bit tactless and precious about things.

prufrock · 19/07/2004 11:09

OK enid and tigermoth/Marina you can have my vote, and could you all please vote for Newstead abbey in the Midlands region for my Mums sake?

enid · 19/07/2004 14:33

consider it done prufrock.

I quite like Ptolemy. He's quite sweet, fey and old fashioned. Like me .

Tetley - it IS an amazing place to work. I walk up an amazing staircase surrounded by an 18th century mural every morning. It is so lovely. And to think I never thought I would ever get an interesting job once I moved to the sticks . Mind you, it did take me 5 years to find it.

I saw some of last Sunday's - what region was that? South East? Strawberry Hill, I assume is in Strawberry Hill so must have been South East. Cool that you got to meet Griff, Enid - I did some work transcribing tapes of him talking through his next novel - very funny bits of it and he has such a great voice. Will be watching on Sunday, vote at the ready.

enid · 22/07/2004 19:25

Thanks wilbur. He is quite bonkers/eccentric looking in real life, he looks a bit like a funny old lady .but very nice and un 'starry'
