The burden of refusing to use emojis and LOL.

I just cant bring my self to use them. This has lead to a fair bit of miscommunication online and through text. I have a dry sense of humour and often people think I am serious when I am not. Of course that is the point of a dry sense of humour but in the real world people and either can tell your having a laugh or you can see from them that they are taking it seriously and after a bit of fun you can clear things up. But online I fear I have upset a few people and/or given them the wrong impression of me. Especially a disadvantage when internet dating. Has anyone else faced the say problems?

I find it very hard to use emojis and LOL, even when 'I'm laughing out loud' is precisely what I'd like to say. I compose my text messages just as I would an email unless I can't, e.g. my train is going into a tunnel.

RE: internet dating - I think you'll find someone who feels the same, so stick to your guns.

I would assume that in internet dating a text is carefully considered, so I'd be put off by one featuring a lot of LOLs etc.

Glad I'm not the only one. I don't see the day when I will use LOL (and yes before some smart arse points it out I am fully aware of LOL for purposes of this thread, the irony is not lost on me). It would definitely be a good thing if someone picked up on my humour with prompt or explanation via a little yellow face. Would probably mean they are on the same wave length instead of thinking me mad or a dick. I talking to someone (and looking like a date next week) with someone who seems to get meaning without the little yellow things. Think she may have the same sort of self depravating, dark, bizarre and slightly hurendous/offensive kind of humour. So maybe I should stick to my guns tip top. If other don't get me so be it.

(Just as a side note my ex wife used to use LOL and it really grated on me. So ideally looking to avoid someone who LOLs).
