AU REVOIR MUMSNET!

Yes, it is time to go! We move from our house this coming Monday, then on Thursday we head down to London for 2 nights (see Mumsnet Meet-ups for details), then to Hastings for one night and on Sunday we get the ferry to France! I will lose access to the internet probably over the weekend, although I am hoping to get a laptop to use in France. However this will be intermittent as caravans don't have phone lines! We'll have to hook it up to a mobile, so I'll probably only be able to log on once a week.

I shall miss Mumsnet, although I've been so busy these past few weeks that I've not been on as often as I've wanted to, and I guess it's proved to me that I can actually survive without Mumsnet for a time at least!

And there's one more thing that I've ummed and ahhed about telling you all as it blows my anonymity, but then you've all been brilliantly supportive of all my troubles and so it would be nice to include you all in our fun......I'm actually Catherine Zeta Jones!

Noooo, did anyone believe that? No seriously, you will all be able to find out how we get on in France next year if you switch onto BBC1 9pm a new series titled 'The Naked Us' (yeah I know, crap title, it wasn't our idea!). We're featured in a one hour programme. It's about people who do life-changing things and we were asked to contribute. Filming started about 2 months ago and will continue until Feb/March. The series will be shown next summer.

So thank you all for all that you have done. To the Mumsnet team for producing such a great website that has probably saved my life and my sanity on a number of occasions. Good luck to you all whatever you decide to do and wherever you decide to go. I'll try to pop in from time to time, and certainly if we get settled anywhere I'll get back onto Mumsnet straight away (although I might have to change my nickname once this programme comes out!)

So Au Revoir et Merci Mumsnet!

tigermoth · 15/07/2004 07:46

rhubarb, it's so nice to see you making your dreams reality. I remember you posting (about 3 years ago?) about you wanting to do some travelling with your family. And how exciting about the BBC. And your adventures will give you lots to write about.

I don't know many details about your trip, but if you are staying on caravan sites, some may well have internet access. Hope so, anyway.

I wonder if you'll bump into SML? amazingly long shot I know, but she was last heard of living in a farmhouse somewhere in the Alsace region. Come to that, I wonder if you will meet any other mumsnettters? Have you got a mumsnet 't'shirt?

Anyway, bye bye, good luck and do post again -and get custardo to update us!

Flip · 15/07/2004 09:06

Good luck Rhubarb. I hope it all works out for you and your family. Please keep us updated.

Have a safe trip.

Blu · 15/07/2004 12:40

A Bientot, Rhubarb, wishing you success and happiness - let us know what is happening from time to time - no, can't say I had caught up with all this, but good luck.
And who is going to alert us so that we don't miss the programme?

oliveoil · 15/07/2004 13:03

well you kept this news quiet, you little monkey! Good luck and update us on your adventure

eefs · 15/07/2004 13:05

oh Rhubarb
I hope you get on brilliantly and you all become native without any hassle. Best of luck, and thanks for being there for me when I needed.
you'll be missed

Cam · 15/07/2004 13:08

Wishing you all the best Rhubarb and can't wait to hear all about your New French Life. Keep in touch with m/net whenever you can. Best of luck!

Rhubarb this thread must have prompted a very odd dream I had last night.

My mother called me saying that her estate agent was called Rhubarb so must be one of my mumsnet lot as no-one else would have such a silly name. It was you, and when I saw you you said that you weren't really moving to France, you had just had enough of mumsnet and it was an excuse, you were in fact an estate agent in Hampshire.

Now how odd is that?

Rhubarb · 15/07/2004 16:55

Wow CD - that's exactly right!
Thanks for all these messages, if I get the chance I'll print them out and keep them so I don't forget any of you. Trouble is our printer has packed up, so maybe Custy will print it out and give it to me when I see her hopefully.

I will do my best to get Custy on the telly!!!!

I'm sure I can find the time to keep you all posted now and then. And I don't think you need a reminder about the telly thing, with a title like 'The Naked Us' you are hardly likely to forget are you?
We are staying in the KWest Hotel in Shepherds Bush on Thurs and Fri night (22nd & 23rd), so if anyone wants to meet, perhaps we can get pissed on Thurs night in the bar, or meet up on Friday? Me and dh are out on our own Fri night, BBC are providing babysitters for us, so maybe someone who knows London would like to tell us where to go?

I've loved meeting you all in virtual life, and having debates and laments and grumbles! I've disagreed with a few, but I hope I've always left the debate on good terms. You're a supportive and caring bunch and I LOVE YOU ALL!

All the best Rhubarb! Have a fantastic time, you will be missed!

I hope someone reminds us nearer the time when you are going to be on the telly (I need reminded about everything), don't want to miss it!

Jollymum · 15/07/2004 21:44

Rhubarb, can't remember how long I've been adding to Mumsnet, but it has to be at least two years. All the best, Custy will hopefully let us know all about you and your lovely family and the dates for the telly thing. Love and best wishes for a wonderful new life.XXXXXXX

Rhubarb · 16/07/2004 14:00

Pembridge Court Hotel in Notting Hill, our booking was changed by the BBC and we are now here from Thurs 22nd to Sat 24th. Does anyone live nearby? Anyone want to meet-up Thurs or Fri for a drink?

We've said goodbye to loads of people already and I hate it! Especially when it comes to dd saying goodbye to her best buddy at nursery. Please let us be doing the right thing!

Rhubarb, I have just come across a website you might find useful once you're in France: angloinfo , which gives information about everyday life in France, in English.
