How can "Venture" (photographers) justify their prices???

My neighbour is having a Venture party next month and was telling me all about it today. She has jusr paid £500 for one (!) photograph. ONE! Another friend of mine paid £700 (I think) with three little pictures in it. The pictures are good, but are they really good enough for that kind of money??? When dd1 was 5 months we went to have photos done and for £285 we got two frames with six photos in each, plus about 10 mounted normal sized photographs. And I thought that was a lot then. How come people are willing to pay so much - am I missing something here?

Nickola, what is the package called that you have ??? I had a look on their website but ther were that many packages i wasn't sure which one is hould get.

Until recently there was a photographer underneath me who took wonderful digital photos and his portfolio was full of amazing images which he manipulated. I think he has been Photographer of the year in some worthwhile competitions. He definitely did photos of families in the large format modern style so anyone in the Midlands look for Chris Bradbury as I'm sure he can't be as expensive as these Venture franchises.

its called watch me grow plan, ive been trying to ring them all week as mine has finished and i want to buy another one nut there are so busy xx

gscrym · 18/07/2004 14:11

If that's what they charge for a kiddie sitting, imagine what they would charge for doing a wedding!

spacemonkey · 18/07/2004 14:16

lol @ evil Junior magazine

I saw a woman reading it on the tube the other day and was sniggering to myself

Just looked at Chris Bradbury's web site and found this picture this which is quite cute. Most of the portraits on the web site are quite conventional but i have seen others of the white background cavorting about kind that he's done. And there are some prices on there.

Don't know why I've pasted in a link that I know won't work! Useless.

It did work, Lemonice!! V. cute photo,I agree.

katierocket · 18/07/2004 15:16

well, when i used to work from them we had one couple who spent £6000 on photos of them and their two dogs.....yes really.

lemonice · 18/07/2004 15:19

Katierocket that is unbelievable surely you could have your own photographer on your staff for a fortnight for that.

katierocket · 18/07/2004 15:21

ha ha ha - they were very funny with,,,shall we say...too much money

CountessDracula · 18/07/2004 15:22

Sorry but these posed photos make me cringe.

I would much rather have snaps I've taken myself on the wall, that I associate with a particular good time etc. It's all too false.

codswallop · 18/07/2004 15:23

the thing is, i really dont like posaed pics, they dont look my kids. the ones i had done last (well over a yr ago at boots) dd1 looks like she has a forced smile on her face, and dd2 looks petrified. the one done at venture a month later has dd1 yelling at the cameraman with a cheeky look on her face and dd2 is crawling on the floor beside grinning away. those are my kids!!
