Cigarette smoke smell from neighbours....

we can smell cigarette smoke from our new neighbours, its paticularly bad in DS's room. the room has bare floor boards with a rug, loads of gaps, its a terraced house. Is there any thing any one can suggest to stop it? Carpet? sealing the gaps in the floor? Any ideas welcome.

Or try burning some of those anti-cigarette smoke candles?

Have similar problem. we live in a terraced house and just in one room occasionally we can smell whatever the neighbour is doing. example today smell strongly of paint, normally of food. luckily not smoke as they are not smoking. The house has been thoroughly refurbished and new wood floor has been put in with insulation underneath. there's a brick vent to the outside. could it be that? or could it come from adjoining wall?

We live in a terraced house and get all the neighbours' cooking smells. Our bedroom habitually smells of rice. I have still not worked out how, as their kitchen is on the ground floor.

OMG! I've just joined mumsnet and this post alone has made it worth while!

Thank goodness i'm not going mad! We live in a victorian terrace and have exactly the same problem. My neighbour smokes in her bedroom and it is next to our kids room and the smell is really bad in there, my youngest is only 5 months and its worrying me so much!!

Used to happen in my parents' (very solidly built) 1920's semi too. No idea how to stop it, sorry - their (elderly) neighbour took up smoking when her DH died, and I think she exclusively smoked in one of the bedrooms, but she moved away about a year later.

I know it's a gittish thing to do but I used to close the window with a little force when our neighbours' smoke came into our flat.

But then I am an ex-smoker and you know what they say about us...

I'm going to try blocking the airbrick vent tomorrow. will let you know what happens.
