Another name question - did you chose your child's name before they were concieved?

Was discussing names with (childless) friends - and everyone I know has names they like for future babies but I just wondered if anyone actually used the names they had planned on before they got pregnant.

We have names we like, but I can't imagine ever using one for a real baby! (reason no. 471 I am NOT ready for children yet!).

We like Thomas and Caitlin BTW.

I never have but my friend who is just having her baby had her names picked out for months

wildwoman · 29/03/2007 13:43

DP and I did with dd1 simply becuase we were so sick of being asked. We plumped for a name that could be for either gender, and becuase we liked it of course!

PippiLangstrump · 29/03/2007 13:56

Lullabyloo · 29/03/2007 13:59

Smurfgirl · 29/03/2007 14:01

naily
do you like the name you gave your DD1 instead as much as the name you had planned on?

We chose names before we even got engaged or married!

Taylormamaloveslindtbunnies · 29/03/2007 14:02

yes - we chose DS's name when i was 6 weeks pg and then when he was born we had a panic and then went with it ....

bunnypeculiar · 29/03/2007 14:02

We had a boys & girls name well before I was pg... but I went off the girls one, so in the end, dd didn't get hers sorted until well after she was born

Ever since I was a teenager I'd wanted a little girl called Daisy, don't really know why other than it's such a pretty name and it's one of my favourite flowers. It's very strange though because we couldn't decide on a boy's name at all, and then out popped Daisy! Middle name (Mimi - my late granny's name)was chosen when pg.

melminx · 29/03/2007 14:04

had most of mine chosen from age of 12 always wanted 6 kids!

Crazydazy · 29/03/2007 14:05

As soon as we found out we were having a girl we started choosing names for DD, nobody seemed to like the names DP and I liked so two months before I gave birth we agreed on a name that everyone seemed to like. By the time she was born I had got bored with the name and wanted something else but DP insisted and he had really grown fond of the name so that was her name still seethe about it now tbh.

With DS DP and I decided on his name and stuck with it no matter what the family said, he suited his name when he was born and I still like the name for him now

Just felt like I was railroaded into DD's name although it is all the same a nice name but not the one I would have chosen.

Fimbo · 29/03/2007 14:05

I had dd's name picked before I even met dh! . Luckily he liked my choice, I did go with his choice for ds though!

aDad · 29/03/2007 14:05

Nope. Not until after they were born, both times.

Crazydazy · 29/03/2007 14:06

Good god Melminx you brave brave and must be patient woman!!!

PestoEasterMonster · 29/03/2007 14:06

Nooooooooo!!

fineanddandy · 29/03/2007 14:06

DH and I are about to start TTC and I am trying to get him to agree to name choice before I even get pregnant as I know how indecisive he is and that it could take months and months for us to agree on a name we both like. Know it's jumping the gun a bit but it really helps you to visualise it if you can give the baby a name.

bEllieK · 29/03/2007 14:07

I have some names in mind, and one I particularly like, but I won't decide til the baby arrives cos I think children should 'suiut' their name IYSWIM.

I do have family names picked out for middle names tho.

fennel · 29/03/2007 14:07

We did already have the names more or less waiting for dd2 and dd3, from the shortlist we'd made for dd1.

I have names for the 3 boys we haven't had too.

melminx · 29/03/2007 14:08

crazydazy. think mad as they come is more suitable to me!

nailpolish · 29/03/2007 14:09

smurf and lullaby, i LOVE the name dh chose for dd1, it really suits her
