Is anyone else Pissed Off that Gordy has reduced VAT to 5% on nicotine patches but we still have to pay 17.5% on Tampax?

That's all.

It's been bugging me for a week now, I just had to get it off my chest.

Harumph

umm, VAT on sanitary protection was abolished in about 2000...you've had 7 years of being annoyed unnecessarily.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/03/2007 21:42

Anyway - you should be using eco friendly mooncups

expatinscotland · 26/03/2007 21:43

I use a mooncup, too, but Gordon's the biggest tampon of them all.

Tatties · 26/03/2007 21:43

Yeah, maybe he's trying to encourage Mooncup use

southeastastra · 26/03/2007 21:45

why are you annoyed about the vat on nicotine patches? surely that's a good thing

Mercy · 26/03/2007 21:46

margo, that's what I thought too.

In fact I remember signing a petition re the very same thing when I was in the 6th form (over 25 years ago )

margoandjerry · 26/03/2007 21:47

Tis gospel.

You might not have realised as he didn't announce it in the speech - too embarrassed! It was hidden in the Finance Act. Best ever example of a stealth tax cut!

kimiTheEasterBunny · 26/03/2007 21:48

I had to buy some tampax in Morroca and a box of 12 was £5.00

GreenandBlackOtter · 26/03/2007 21:49

is that true margot?

margoandjerry · 26/03/2007 21:52

Honestly, honestly true! I was working at the Treasury at the time. I remember being asked by one of the special advisers if women would like it if VAT on sanitary products was abolished. I said yes (durrr) and hey presto, it became law !

I was practically the Chancellor!

Mercy · 26/03/2007 21:58

Ye, Margo is right.

(I have been signing petitions for years)

choosyfloosy · 26/03/2007 22:00

well, thank you VERY much margo

PrincessPeaHead · 26/03/2007 22:17

OH MY GOD!

Margo I'm SO HAPPY

You are right, it has been pissing me off for ummmmm I'd say about 20 years. It was abolished? Hurrah!

Nicotine patches all around! Hell, make them completely VAT free!

PrincessPeaHead · 26/03/2007 22:21

Now what else has really been pissing me off that we can get Mumsnet to fix?

Hmmmm,

Actually I feel quite bereft, I'm used to feeling completely livid every time I buy a box of tampax, I'm going to have to rechannel that somewhere
