This morning Toys R Us came up trumps - who do you rate for great customer service?

We went out for a long walk yesterday morning and took bikes for the older two and ds2 took his Thomas tricycle. Midway through walk (flat surface), the wheels at the back started to split. Now we've has this trike a year or more, but it's only been taken out about half a dozen times for a walk.

I called them first (to save possible wasted journey in case they wouldn't help) and they said to bring it up and they'd probably offer to replace the wheels. 'Marvellous' I thought and off I went, more than happy with that.

When I got there, the nice lady I spoke to was there and as soon as she saw it had clearly hardly been used and was in (otherwise) excellent condition, she called her boss and explained, and he authorised a full replacement there and then!!

Needless to say, ds2 is thrilled and so am I. I really didn't expect them to be so helpful.

So, thought it'd be good to hear your good (and poor) customer service stories as I think Toys R Us deserve a pat on the back for this one!

Ocado. Best online grocer by far. Tried all the others who just pale into comparison; Ocado may be a bit more expensive but you hardly ever get any subtituted items and you don't get delivered any fruit and veg that look as though they've been smashed with a baseball bat. And the delivery blokes are usually really friendly and helpful.

Oh yes, Amazon are good. I had to return a faulty item outside of the thirty days they give for returns and they refunded the item in full plus the postage and also the two other items which I bought to go with it, which I couldn't use without the first item!

kiddicare.com: I ordered a high chair at around 11am one morning, and it turned up by 10am the following day - that was on free delivery, and we live in the middle of nowhere!

The people that make Readybeds were really good when both the airbeds started going down after just a couple of trips away. I received new ones within 5 days of first contacting them about the problem and the staff member i dealt with was polite and helpful at all times. I was disappointed that the beds were faulty when they are so expensive but couldn't fault the customer service.

Blooming Marvellous are really good when something arrives defective, which seems pretty much every time I order from them

ELC - They have replaced anything I have taken in without hesitation or receipts and always swap duplicate presents with no fuss at all. I wrote to them once about their wooden blocks as quite a lot of the paint had chipped off and they sent a brand new box out to me........in Cyprus (albeit on a BFPO address, but they didn't deliver to BFPO normally).

I second ELC

also JOHN LEWIS marvellous shop with exceptionally helpful staff.

Skyler · 26/03/2007 20:16

I wish we had a John Lewis near us. My Dad thinks it is great and I just don't get it. Having looked at the website they don't have much choice and it is not cheap. The customer service must be brilliant.

DANCESwithaTruckLoadOfMiniEggs · 26/03/2007 20:16

Oh, their website is rubbish, the actual shop is a million times better.

I agree with Aero on Toys R Us. My DH's Xbox 360 stopped working of its own accord after 12 months. We spent a week trying to get hold of Microsoft and we spent hours listening to a recorded message telling us we were moving up the queue but never getting a response. We called Toys R Us to see whether they had any other contact numbers and they told us that they had had similar complaints and that they would exchange for us and deal with Microsoft directly. We were very impressed.

Interesting about Woolworths dmo - I've not had any trouble really, but they do insist on testing anything you bring back etc - as if you're not telling the truth etc. I've always got a refund/exchange, but not always without question there.

ELC, agree - they are fab. Have never had a quibble there.

Have just told dh (working away from home atm) about the trike - he's gobsmacked!!

Amazon. Ordered some DVDs... and waited... and waited... and logged on and found that I'd been refunded for my cancelled order.

I suspect a postie had discovered it was too big to fit through the door, so just sent it back. In the meantime the DVDs I'd ordered had doubled in price.

Mailed them that evening, and had a new parcel on it's way, discounted to original order price , within 24 hrs. First problem I've had with them, sorted in a day. Magic.

Curry's swapped my steam iron that had stopped steaming for a new one without even checking that there was an iron in the box I took back (incidentally the old iron was there)
