Friends have mentioned going to the Peter Gabriel concert in Hyde Park in June and I was thinking of maybe taking 2 year old along. I have seen people with babies at music festivals before but I'm not sure how good an idea this is (for adults or child). Have any of you ever brought children to a music concert/festival? What are pros and cons?

we took ds1 when he was 9 months old to a little festival. During the day it was fine, but he didn't sleep so well at night....
too much noise adn i think we had overheated him during a nap in the day too

i would think the gig would be very busy and you aren't going to get much of a sit down and chill and listen to the music.
However, if the weather is nice and there are stalls and stuff- then you can "be there" and have a little wander around too.
it is a long time since i have been to a specific concert like this, we usually do festivals etc so can't comment.
You could give it a go and then if it doesn't work get over it!?

We are planning to take a 3.5yr and a 1.5yr old to a festival this yr and i just can't wait- i think we'll have a great time
it is hard to do the things you did prekids when you have kids...but you can salvage bits IMO.

thanks - there are various tents at the gig and it does sound like a chill out type event - starts in the afternoon. The Feeling and Crowded House also playing.

i'd go if i were you.
we learned alot from the first festival with ds1 and if i wasn't pg the next yr we may well have gone again.
last yr there was family stuff going on, so this yr is the year we go again.

we used to go to womad every year pre kids, but i wouldn't fancy it with two littlies.

the nice thing about aot of the world music festivals is they are pretty family orientated and have workshops for the 3+ yr olds, thye malke masks etc and you can stay with them, or go as you like.

roll on summer!

There are lots of music festivals that are great to got to with kids e.g. The Big Chill, free one-day festivals at the South Bank etc. But I am not sure a giant concert in Hyde Park is a good place to start. Getting there and back will involve huge crowds and queues, especially at the end. I doubt you will chill very much at all, unless you stay so far away from the action that you can't see Peter G. If your kid is still in nappies at least you won't have to queue for the loos with him/her though.
