We are living in North London and my dp has just got a teaching job in Thetford (just on the Suffolk/Norfolk boarder). We don't actually want to live in Thetford so are looking in a 45 minutes' drive radius. Suffolk education authority is supposed to be better than Norfolk so we are looking in West Suffolk. I have a son, 4 and a half years (due to go to reception in September) and a 16 month old daughter so I(/we!) need to find a decent primary school. Any advice on family-friendly locations (small towns or villages are fine)?

I don't know an awful lot about west Suffolk but we live in East Suffolk and I can definatelyy recommendthe county as a grest place to bring up a family. My main recommendation would be to avoid getting too remote as comunications are not always great, public transport etc.I understand Wymondham is nice and has fantastic schools especially at senior level.Bury st Edmunds is also a great place to live, nice town, good shops and schools. We have friends all around so any further info will post again.A good web site for school research is www.schoolsnet.co.uk maybe .com can never remember! One comment on the stowmarket area is that they operate the middle school system there, lots of small infant schools in villages and them move at 9 to bigger middle school.Good luck

Thank you for that, Philly. I'll have a look at your suggestions.

Horringer about 3 miles for Bury St Edmunds has an excellent primary school. St Louis Catholic School in Bury also has a very good reputation.
