... I let DSs (8 and 6) paint a Jackson Pollock style painting in the kitchen. Despite laying down a huge plastic sheet and an old table cloth and covering the worksurface, paint is up the cupboards, on the floor, the cooker hood, on the tiled splashback, in the toaster, on anything that resides on the worktop and on the ceiling. It is in DSs hair, ears and heaven knows where else. Some of it is even on the 4 stretched canvasses it was meant to go on.

Still, they had a whale of a time and I finally washed the kitchen floor for the first time in living memory. I even intend letting them do it again. In the summer. In the garden.

i have done that at school with 10 kids. It was great (she says now)....

cazzybabs · 25/03/2007 16:11

Are you going to display it in your house?

PinkTulips · 25/03/2007 16:11

you're braver than me.

i'm not being a good mummy today, today's my day off as i'm tired of always being the good parent. i did make pancakes this morning but i do that every week so i don't think it counts

cazzybabs · 25/03/2007 16:12

i am not being a good mummy...I am tired, d1 has a friend round and I am hiding in the bedroom on MN.

Nbg · 25/03/2007 16:14

Cool!

Might give that a go with dd.
Where did you get your canvases?

dither · 25/03/2007 16:14

what? if yr a good mummy all the time it stops counting? nah, dont think so.

Nbg · 25/03/2007 16:15

ans i was a good mummy because i made sushi rolls with dd.
first for both of us.

SoupDreggon · 25/03/2007 16:15

DS2 did it at school recently - the whole of year 1 so 90 children although I suspect not all at once . They were covered in paint splodges!!

I do plan on displaying it. At the moment it's 4 8x8inch canvasses taped into a big square. I plan to display them split up into a larger square IYSWIM. Probably in the playroom!

I@m usually a cr*p mother who can't be ar$ed but I thought "why not?". I hadn't anticipated that it would be on the fecking ceiling though! Luckily DH isn't here

Because I helped them make decorated easter eggs for the easter competition at school, and I even let them into my art cupboard.

Grudgingly!

And then amde them all a full roast

And let DH sleep until 2.45 (mind you he only gets home at 5.30 am, so thats an hours lie in, not half a day)

SoupDreggon · 25/03/2007 16:16

Canvasses from the Works btw.

And I let them do it all by themselves whilst BabyDragon was having lunch, safely confined in the highchair Which is a Big Thing for me as I can't bear them not doing art/craft stuff properly!

V impressive! I have banished all paint from the house!

I have let dd and ds do some horrendous Dinosaur Dig activity pack (that ds got for his birthday AGES ago) - I told them they had to do it by themselves but it seems to involve plaster of paris, chisels, chipping away with rock pick things to find fossils and generally, making an enormous mess. I am ignoring the mess and will, hopefully, get dh to tidy it up when he wakes up (he's fallen asleep on the couch!).

janeite · 25/03/2007 16:43

I am a good mother today because I took dd1 out, treated her in Starbucks and bought her first "baby bra" and a Teenger's guide to life book! Also let her spend ages browsing clothes shops in order to spend her own money and didn't complain at any of her chosen purchases!

SoupDreggon · 25/03/2007 16:45

"didn't complain at any of her chosen purchases!" Oh, that's far better than letting DSs cover the kitchen with paint. TOp Good Mother points there!

I spent 1 1/2 making Easter bonnets with dd and ds. I let them use whatever they wanted out of the craft cupboard with the result that my kitchen ended up covered in paint, glue and the dreaded glitter. And I didn't moan about the mess once (even though i had only just cleaned it)

janeite · 25/03/2007 19:46

lol Soupdragon. I still think not complaining about mess is even more noble though!

Blandmum · 25/03/2007 19:58

I sat for 4 hours in a very cold village hall so ds could get his orange belt at Karate.

last time I didn't stay (bad mummy) and he wimped out
