Good online encyclopedia (other than wikipedia) or similar website that will provide short and pithy summaries on lots of topics

encyclopaedia britannica? think you might have to pay though. or world book?

Thnaks. I'll check those out. I have to write lots of articles very quickly on a variety of topics for some people who speak English as a second language, and don't have time to get to a library to do research.

Check whether your local public library has a deal with Britannica - we have Wandsworth library tickets and can use their link to Britannica online.
