She is devastated, she's been on the phone, can't hardly breathe, she's panicking, she's upset. It's the end of the road for them but I don't know how to help her.

Poor thing, the fact that you were on the other end of the phone is a big help. My friend's husband died last year, I spent a long time just talking to her and being there if she needed me. It's been nearly a year now and she is so much better than she was
