Inspired by the Thomas Hardy thread...

Listening to Madonna and Wham make me happy

soft play centres full of children having a wonderful time make me feel sad.

the singers voice from antony and the johnsons makes me feel happy.

The ending of The Taming of the Shrew makes me very sad and I am sure that's not intended

This is all about catharsis really isn't it Franny - the restorative bliss of a good weep

The Smiths really do it for me too, and Leonard Cohen

thoughts of my dearly departed daddy who passed away when i was 16.
the memories i have of him make me happy, but knowing that with each year that passes my memories of him fade makes me sad.

sorry, too morbid. he was a lovely chap, always singing, dancing, playing his guitars, pulling funny faces, telling jokes... he was also very interesting and passionate about things and was a very good daddy and husband. there, hopefully that cheers things up a bit!?

The thing with the Smiths is that yes some of the subject matter is depressing, but if you are going through it then how lovely to know that you are not alone! And actually in very excellent company

The ending to Amelie is such a happy one, but gives me a big lump in my throat.

You are on to something too with the carols and nativity plays Franny; I find children singing sets me off. Actually anything kind / sweet / thoughtful ds does makes me sad. I think it's because it makes me think about how innocent he is and how I don't want him to grow up

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 21:46

Yes Tatties when I was a child my mother used to tell me that when I was very little I used to say "drink of mink, mummy" to ask for a drink. This never failed to have me in tears and I am sure it is the tragic passing of innocence thing again. It is almost unbearably sad, isn't it?

My Granny's death makes me smile. I miss her so much but I know she pined for my Grandfather since before I was born so thinking of her being with him always makes me feel really happy.

Tatties · 19/03/2007 22:03

Oh Franny that is lovely

princesscc · 19/03/2007 22:04

People winning on game shows makes me really cry! Especially if its kids! The look of expection on a kiddies face and then the excitement of the win is just wonderful! (ooh I'm filling up)

Any 1970s children's TV shows make me sad; lost childhood and all that. Predictable, but my kids make me feel happy. 3-year-old DS offered to wash my hair when I was in the bath the other day and he did it so gently and meticulously I was in tears .
