Having just taken delivery of my new bike I need abit of help.

DD2(2) and DS2(1) (both with biggish heads) need helmets that will be comfy to lean back on their seats with

The bike has 7 gears and really i'm clueless I thought I had it sussed and then the bike was far to free wheeled as I came down a slight hill- thankfully not our road as that is tough to walk up!

Any tips suggestions? thanks!!

Re: helmets, go talk to your local cycle shop. The ones my DSes have are easy to adjust, which is very practical with winter hats etc etc.

Gear-wise, you want to be in the lowest or nearly lowest gear most of the time, then gear up loads when you are going down a hill.

How about something like this? (Comes in black too...) We found with our trailer that you need a flat backed helmet, otherwise their heads get pushed forward. ds has an enormous head and now, just turned four, wears the same helmet as me.

Thanks nome- i've been looking at bmx ones online and wondered if they are as safe as the 'normal' ones? because they certainly look like they would be more comfy in their chairs

Actually...we didn't bother with helmets in the trailer in the end, but they have to have them on to go on the bike seats. Our trailer has straps and a roll cage and is very difficult to flip. (so shoot me now)

I would have thought bmx ones are also safe, aren't they for doing stunts and flips and whatever teens do on those fugly ramps in parks?

A (grown up) friend wears a bmx one when cycling. I guess your head would get hotter and be less aerodynamic in a bmx one.

Do the bmx one have a BS number?

Well we had lovely weather at the weekend, have you tried the new bike out down the camel trail?
