are you any good at basic sewing, crunchie?

I recently did a play set in victorian times and most girls wore a school blouse with lots of lace tacked onto the collar, cuffs and down the front to hide the buttons. add an oval locket if you have one, a long skirt, and if she has long hair, put it up in a bun, and if you have time, surround the bun with a lacey scrunchie.

also they wore thick woolly dark tights and little ankle boots (or just school shoes).

hth!

I can sew but have little/no time!! That may have to be an option.

Or look in a charity shop for a lacey blouse. The rest you probably will already have or can find in charity shops.

I always find when people know what you're supposed to be dressed as, (i.e. victorian in this case) then often just a suggestion of the dress from that period is sufficient.

Could you make a mop cap (is that what they're called?), wrap a shawl around her shoulders, long skirt etc for the "poor Victorian" look ?
