What are your best 'coincidence' storys?

malaleche · 03/03/2007 22:11

Dp and i once had the same dream, on the same night.
I once dreamt our neighbour had thrown up and found out 2 days later he had, while i was having the dream.
There are loads more but i forget them...
Any good stories? (Doesnt have to involve dreams).

Sorry - title should read 'stories' not 'storys'

I was at a concert in Giants Stadium, New Jersey, and amongst 50,000 Americans I ended up standing next to an English bloke who had gone to school with a friend of mine

malaleche · 03/03/2007 22:48

My best one is that, tho they are different days and months, the day i met dp, the day we arrived in the country we emigrated to and the day our dd1 was born, all the most important events in my life in other words, share the same RC saint, or different 'versions' of her but with the same name (we arent RC but i discovered this from a calendar of RC saints days while looking for baby names for dd1 - we had to call her after the saint of course!). Then dd2 was born on the same date as the emigration date, so, same saint again. I was convinced she'd arrive on that date and was lying there at 11pm saying to the MW, do you think she'll arrive before midnight? She did.

I have two

1 - my ex-best childhood girl friend, met my cousin at uny while both studying for a post graduate degree in a town far away from home. They eventually got married and are still together. Me and her had fallen out in our teens and my family could not stand her. We could not believe it, she was somebody I had already archived.

2- I have had the three long term relationships in my life, and now I am single. Two of my serious exes had their birthdays on the same day (different years though), and the third the day after. Isn't it weird? Since they were all very bad choices, I think I will ask the birth date before getting involved with anyone else,

HappyDaddy · 03/03/2007 23:00

My previous short term contract was at a firm that had only 5 staff. 3 of us had birthdays on consecutive days.

malaleche · 03/03/2007 23:02

Everybody in my immediate family inc. cousins aunts grandmother etc. has a 'birthdate twin' in another family member. E.G. 21st April and 21st October, 5th June and 5th December.
Oh yes, and to add a coda to the saints day story, both my dd's share birthdays with relatives from my grandmother's generation.

And my youngest uncle on my dad's side has the same birthday as a half-brother of his who no-one knew existed till recently, from my grandfather's first 'marriage'.

Last April I took dd to Pompeii and when we arrived we got chatting to another English family and decided that the 2 families would hire a guide. The guide showed us the highlights and asked us where we were from in England. When dd told him, he said his daughter was living in my town and managing a restaurant. Her home is about 500 yards from mine and the restaurant is 5 mins walk away. When we got back to England I went to see her and her father (the guide) had already phoned her to tell her about us, she hadn't seen him for a few years and was thrilled to talk to me about him. I have a photo of him I took at Pompeii that I must get around to giving her.

I can't think of a single coincidence story that's happened to me.

Maybe that's a good thing?

JanH · 03/03/2007 23:30

I posted this one recently and there are a few other good stories on the thread!

SlightlyMadScientist · 03/03/2007 23:36

I had a dream/'haunting' that my paternal nan was in my house in the middle of the night. The next morning I had a phone call to say my dad had died.

SlightlyMadScientist · 03/03/2007 23:39

We were in teh greek islands on a trampoline thing in the middle of the sea, chatting to the english teenager operating it.

We were talking about we we come from - you know how it goes.
"I'm from county"
"so are we, where"
"near city X"
"so are we"
"actually the village is called X"
"my dads from there - do you know the barbers shop XXX - he owns it"
"yeah I was in there 2 weeks ago getting my hair cut before coming out here to work for the summer"

jampot · 03/03/2007 23:57

my mum had 3 brothers, one brother and children on the same day 13 years apart, another one had children onm the same day 3 years apart and my mum had children on the same day 15 minutes apart. The other one didnt have any children

My mum died on my sons 1st birthday

On a school trip to St Goarshausen in 2nd year secondary school I bumped into a lad who I went to primary school with and who had left the area a few years before to move down south with his mums boyfriend - they were there on honeymoon i think.

malaleche · 04/03/2007 11:42

Good one of yours on the other thread JanH, and the others below. The haunting ones fall more into a different category don't you think?
Friend of mine dreamt she was in a boat crossing a river with her grandmother. (River Styx to the underworld, right?) Next day she learned the granny had died during the night...

One morning when i still lived at home i walked into my mums kitchen and she had the radio on. It was the news and at the end the guy said 'so that's the news today Tuesday the x of March (dont want to give date). I wasnt really listening but when he said that i felt a sort of chill inside and i opened my mouth and said 'something bad's going to happen today'. That night at 9pm 5 of my sisters 17 year-old school friends were killed in a car accident. At the moment of the accident another friend of hers who was nowhere near it was violently sick for no reason.

My brother was travelling Oz and NZ.
My cousin was traveling the world.
Neither had contact with the other. After touring NZ my brother decided to sell the camper van he had been using.
A fellow traveller rang and asked to meet to view the van, who should the caller be....none other than my cousin.
Completely true. They were so freaked out, went and got very very drunk indeed.

twinklingstar · 04/03/2007 15:04

Dreamt once that the left rear wheel came off my then boyfriend's vehicle - the next day that wheel came loose as he was driving on the same part of road as had been in my dream.. Noone hurt as he realised something didn't feel right and pulled over to check. Shiver.

Kbear · 04/03/2007 15:19

I was chatting to DS's osteopath about his new lodger who had just moved in. The lodger's family had moved to another country and she was working her notice here before joining them. He was telling me about her plans and we talked about the pros and cons of emigrating etc. Bells started ringing with me... his lodger was my cousin!

Blandmum · 04/03/2007 15:25

I have posted this one on MN before

As a child we went on holiday to Cornwall. We were going with a family and another family said they might meet up with us in cornwall, but would travel down later.

We left on the Friday, and stopped in a farmhouse B and B half way to NewQuay. We shopped in the morning and set off , in slow time with the first family.

A little way into the trip we hit a massive traffic jam, over 5 miles long. We were in front, with the other family driving behind us. We came up to a side road, and my father didn't let the driver at the front of the queue in, but the father from the other family did. After a little while the new car started to flash his lights at us, repeatedly. I turned around, and it was the third family! The ones who said they would meet us in Newquay!

DH's grandad died on his twin son's birthday, which was also his wedding anniversary (but in another year, obviously).
