Has anyone got mosaic tiles...domestic emergency looming

Right I've just got some lovely tumbled mosaic tiles for the kitchen and DH is currently sticking them on the walls.

  1. he is on his second beer

  2. he doesn;t seem to know what to do where there is a gap of half a tiles width or so.

OK, so 1) is irrelevant except to cause me severe heart failure re wonky tiles

  1. He is not a complete amateur, has done tiling before, but there is a gap and he doesn;t seem sure what to do with it.

If you have got or know anything about mosaic tiles please go & look & tell me has someone cut the tiles neatly in half or do you end up with acres of grout filling the space..?

oh god, I knew this was a mistake

My DH cut ours in our old house. Had one of those wet electric cutter machine thingys with a picture of Tommy (?) off ground force on the box.

Good luck !!!!!!!

I have done quite a bit of tiling, not mosaic, but I think I would cut them, how big is each tile?

Why not leave the tricky bits until later , when he hasn't been drinnking?!

I'm just going to quietly inspect....

We took ours to a tile shop to get them cut, unless it was a very small gap, when we filled in with grout

Definitley would not reccomend using electric tile cutter while drinking - not only wonky tiles but possible loss of body parts

FrayedKnot · 02/03/2007 22:23

Ahah - taking htem to a tile shop! Was it a chain or independent shop?

I got the tiles in the first place from Wickes.

No don;t worry DH is not using a tile cutter whilst under the influence.

he has stopped now, and is in a strop because he thinks I think he doesn;t know what he's doing.

The gap is still there.

I have promised to take DS out for the day tomorrow so he can GET ON.

They actually look really good, apart from the gap.

It was an independent tile shop This one in case you're anywhere near.

Sadly no, I am in Kent but there are plenty of tile shops around.

Will quiz DH again tomrrow.
