Oh no!!!! Will keep my fingers well and truly crossed!!! Hopefully they'll still be on there somewhere - it might be a bugger getting to them but it usually takes a lot to wipe something completely.

WideWebWitch · 24/06/2004 09:23

omg, I hope he manages to sort it out twiglett. WK is right, things are very rarely irretrievable IME.

How awful!!!Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!

The police can find things on people's hard drives that were "deleted" months before, can't they, when they want to? So they will still be there, even though it's crashed, it's just finding someone clever enough to get them out. (The police perhaps )

jmg1 · 24/06/2004 09:45

twiglett, if you are not able to retrieve the photos from the PC why don't you scan the hard copies and save them on a CD/DVD?

We lost some of ds's baby pics this way on a laptop we had 4 years ago. It was my fault, I did a system restore . We now do exactly what jmg suggested and all pics which are on the pc are also on two cds, one of which we keep and the other of which my parents have in case the house ever burns down . We have also borrowed family albums from the grandparents too to fill in any gaps that were left by my mistake .

I really hope you can get yours back though, as janh says they may still be there.

How long have you been married Twiglett? Our wedding photographer keeps the negatives of all his weddings for 10 years before giving you the option of buying the proofs etc.

Don't panic!!

Chances are it's just the operating system that's crashed. This is just the software that lets you do stuff which is different from what is stored on your PC.

What you may have lost is the pointers to where it is. Worse comes to worse you can take it to a PC shop or ring one of the people in YP. Where are you? My brother is a PC engineer...

There are companies out there who can try to retrieve data froma crashed hard drive. This happened to friends of mine and they got some, but not all, of the stuff back via one of these companies.

Dunno what happened there I appear to have repeated myself..

LIZS · 24/06/2004 11:27

Hope you recover them twiglett. Losing them is one of my nightmares. I separated the negatives from the prints when we moved so that one way or another we'd have something.
