Trinny and Susanna Advice needed for DD's wedding outfit please!

My dd is 13 and is going to a wedding on Friday and she wants a new outfit to wear. The problem is I find it really difficult to find clothes that suit her shape!

She has very broad shoulders and large boobs, she does have a waist but is quite chubby around the middle and hasn't fully developed a womanly hourglass figure yet. She is a size 16 at the moment and 5 foot 8 tall.

She fancies wearing a skirt with ballerina pumps and a top that will cover her back (she's very hormonal and spotty poor thing).

Any thoughts about what shapes would suit her best?

Wallis do some nice long skirts with tops to match. Tops tend to be a bit strappy though.

When you say skirt - does she mean long and floaty or short??

I think long and floaty might be nice for her with a fine knit bright coloured cardi with lacy camisole underneath. Or a tailored short sleeve jacket with a camisole underneath.

oo thanks soapbox

ideally she would like a multilayered skirt - the sort with a chiffony layer and a solid layer (if that makes sense!)

also she doesn't want to look too girly (she's a bit of a grunger)

V neck top sm, not capped sleeve, 3/4 length would look good on her. Cropped trousers maybe? Nice pair of shoes?

I suggested crop trousers with v neck top and ballet pumps to her this morning, she prefers the idea of a skirt though

i guess i'll just have to grit my teeth and haul my sorry ass up to debenhams ... snivel

Sounds like I'm the same size and height as your dd, spacemonkey! I've got a nice size 16 long bias cut skirt (floaty over solid) from Kew which gives me more of a waist - bias cut is good for getting curves where there are none. They had a couple of diferent patterns and lots of different tops to match and not too expensive, I thought. Nice colours too, muted not too garish. Good luck finding something!

that's a lovely outfit fairydust, thanks for the link - we will check next out

haven't got a kew in colchester wilbur but we'll check it out when we move

Long and floaty bias cut skirt with either vesty/camisoley top underneath and nice cardie (Boden?) on top, or perhaps something sleeker and more fitted with 3/4 length sleeves and a scoop neck/slash neck?

I bought fantastic scrunched up silk skirt with choppy hem the other week in a sort of taupe colour - she might like somethinglike that - can be either dressed up or grunged down.
