Alibubbles is back after Kidney op!

I am back after having had a particularly nasty time in hospital. I went in on Bank holiday Monday, supposedly for 3-4 days; I ended up staying 2 weeks and being very poorly. They had great difficulty getting into my kidney and punctured me three times; I was also on the table for 3 hours, twice as long as expected.

I was having my kidney stones removed, but they inadvertently perforated my peritoneum. I came round from the op okay, but within 24 hours I kept insisting something was wrong. I couldn't move, it hurt so much I couldn't even cry. I was on 4 hourly morphine, a drip and humidified oxygen for 10 days. After chest x-rays, bladder scans, kidney scans etc, they did a CT scan and found that I was completely filled up with leaking blood and fluid.

I was also spiking a temperature and they kept running tests to find out why, the doctor ending up spiking himself with a needle he'd used to get blood from me, with difficulty as all my veins had collapsed. I was only 2 hourly visits from the doc for 5 days.

I had 42 injections in my bum and 12 in each arm, I am black and blue, my soluble stitches didn't dissolve and I had them out on Friday, so now the wounds have at last started to heal.

I am exhausted, sore and very emotional, but minus 1000's of stones, one small good thing, I lost nearly a stone!!

It is touching to find I have been missed. I am having problems reading as the anaesthetic is still having an effect on my eyes, so not allowed to drive. I willl catch up with all the messages soon, having a problem getting them, so if I've missed a question, forgive me, I'll find it soon!

Thanks again!

Thank you soooo much for your kind wishes. I told DH about the messages and he says you are a lovely bunch!

Talking of bunches, DH had filled the house with the most beautiful flowers, every room, even the bathroom, all my favourites, green, cream and white, arum lillies, lisianthus, those rude ones called nuns saddles, all in glass bowls with pebbles, he brought the most fantastic bouquet into hospital and three of the nurses proposed to him! He also bought me ( though I couldn't eat it) Sushi, Leonidas chocolates, champagne and olives and all sorts of little treats. He also bought in my goose down pillows and remembered spare pillow cases!! DD did a cool pack with lots of M&S ready prepared fruit, chocolate buttons and twirls, prawn crackers and other favourites. My family did look after me.

DH has never used a washing machine in his life, let alone use an iron, he took home the night gowns of the lady in the bed next to me, washed them and ironed them and bought them back the next day as she had no one to do it for her and had been fretting about wearing backless hospital gowns, hows that for a caring sould?

Poor DH had gone sailing with DS, on my third day in, a race from IOW to Cherbourg and then Alderney, while I was really poorly. I'd told him to go because I thought I would be home and have a peaceful house to myself, instead he ended up worrying about me!

I have just had a kidney scan and it is all clear, I passed the remaining stones, so hopefully things are looking up!

I have missed reading all the messages, but willl catch up soon.

Thank you all again, for your kind words

big hugs to you, but I have to say can we all queue up for your dh and dd.. Only kidding, take care, and get well soon

Twink · 22/06/2004 22:05

Oh Alibubbles, what an awful experience, I'm not suprised you feel emotional. I hope you recover quickly from all the trauma.

On the bright side, once a dh has encountered a washing machine, they can't play dumb anymore ! Seriously though, that was a lovely gesture by your dh, your family are top bananas.

JJ · 23/06/2004 10:23

Alibubbles, hope you keep feeling better. What a horrible experience!
