Anyone else been really nervous going to a mother & baby club for the first time?

I'm really nervous about this, god knows why, but I imagine it to be a lot of cliquey (sp?) mothers comparing notes on their babies. I really want to go as my 6 mo dd seems to be getting 'bored' with me and loves other babies and kids, so I think she will enjoy it with lots of new faces around her for a while.

Sounds really daft now i've typed it but am i the only one to feel nervous???

they aren't all like that despite what you may have read on some threads!
go - have a nice cuppa, have fun with your baby and don't keep to yourself in a corner not talking to anyone. be friendly! will be ok

All you can do is give it a try.

It can be a little overwhelming to begin with, but give you and your baby time to get used to it before making any decision

well if you are then the others will notice and hopefully be nice to you

and if you aren't the only one then everyone else will feel exactly the same

bite the bullet and go .. be nice to people but not overly friendly .. smile say hello start conversations, other people's babies are a good idea

give it at least 4 visits before you start to invite people out for coffee

Yup!! I haven't gone to any which is weird as pre baby, I was a very social person.....

I think I'm scared of feeling inadequate compared to other mums regarding being a mummy - putting myself down is something I do quite well - must work on that!!

Yes I felt/feel nervous on first visits. But, when you find a good one, they are so worth it. You will start most conversations talking about your babies but once you get on friendlier terms with people, you will probably discuss everything but (or maybe that's just me!)

Mine are almost out of the toddler group stage and I will really miss the tea and chats with women whose names I don't even know.

No, I'm always nervous about new things. I don't always find it easy to start conversations but there's always someone else more confident who can start things off.
