No, I was thinking of the spoken intro
Would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses......

Tanzie · 21/06/2004 20:13

Ooooh yes, Soft Cell, Talking Heads - how about some Human League (Love Action? Hard Times?) and some ABC (The Look of Love - complete with cheesy little dance), West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys. I feel Love, by Donna Summer, mmm what else? Yazoo, Roxy Music for the slower stuff. Funky Town by Lipps Inc and Pop Music by M, AEIOU by Southern Freeze...

Rushes upstairs to search through CD collection

I am 40 next year. You'd never be able to tell from that, would you?

skerriesmum · 21/06/2004 20:20

Old Jackson Five (ABC, I Want You Back) and Michael Jackson (Don't Stop Till You Get Enough) but I wouldn't play anything past Thriller...

Frenchgirl · 21/06/2004 20:24

what? no one mention sacha distel, edith piaf and charles aznavour???

bound to be a great party then!

Frenchgirl · 21/06/2004 20:25

but do play some crowded house and fleetwood mac please (do you do requests?)

have a fantastic time and a happy birthday soapbox!

WideWebWitch · 21/06/2004 20:25

Cor, this is a nostalgic thread! What about everything everyone else has said plus,

Come up and see me sometime - Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel
God Save The Queen- Sex Pistols
Tainted Love, of course!
My Sharona - The Knack
White Lines - Grand master Mel
Anything by The Boomtown Rats
Ditto Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver?
Ooh, may add to this!

skerriesmum · 21/06/2004 20:27

Best Elvis: Suspicious Minds and Burning Love!

sibble · 21/06/2004 20:44

OK most of my choices haev been listed but.....
Knew you were waiting - George and Aretha (was that what it was called??)
Reet petit????
Young hearts run free - Candi Staton
What was it called by Ashford and Simpson
YMCA - I know cheesy
or the ultimate humiliation from my childhood - the song where you flapped your arms like a demeted chicken - the tale of which my dad retold at my wedding - at least he spared everybody the pictures of me in hotpants doing it!!
(brain slow it's 7.30 am in NZ here)

amysoph · 21/06/2004 21:13

Heh heh, so happy to see I am not the only one who's knocking on 40, some of these make me want to cry with nostalgia!

Loads of good suggestions ( I want to come to this party, too! or at least get the compilation CD!) Who said Party Fears Two by the Associates?! INSPIRED! I can remember them doing it on TOTP, and my dad's disgust:"What the bloody ell is he singing about?"!

Some more suggestions:
Born to be Wild Steppenwolf
Love Cats The Cure
Happy Birthday Altered Images
Pull up the the Bumper Grace Jones
Groove is in the Heart DeeLite
Alphabet Street Prince
Loose Fit Happy Mondays
She Bangs the Drums Stone Roses
Panic The Smiths
Supersonic Oasis (on a bit of a Manchester tip here, sorry)
Relight my Fire Take That
Rock Lobster B52s ( or Love Shack)
Boys and Girls Blur

Loads loads more.....too tired and emotional to think anymore....hope you have a great party!!

Bettybloo · 21/06/2004 21:17

Great thread - I'll be 40 in 3 weeks too!
Has anyone mentioned Sqeeze - Cool for Cats or Goodbye Girl? And what about Brown eyed girl - Van morrison.

soapbox · 21/06/2004 21:27

You are all fantastic

Thank you all so much for your help - it really is a trip down memory lane.

Thanks also for all your birthday wishes and for letting me know that I am in good company in moving into the next exciting phase of my life

AND Tom Robinson. And has anyone mentioned 'Sweet Dreams are made of this' by the Eurythmics?

I still think (have been pondering this - do I need to get a life or what?) that you need some of the genuinely cheesy stuff that has NOT stood the test of time. Like David Soul. Recreate that genuine 'grope and vomit' vibe of parties we used to know and lurve. Can you get someone to snog under the table?

I was too pregnant last year to have a 40th. And my Prime Number 41st this year got overtaken by small child who refused to go to bed, so as our music machines have packed up and you have to play CDs out of the telly, we ended up with the Aristocats in that corner which wasn't exactly the intention. (Good party, though.)

WideWebWitch · 21/06/2004 21:29

Ha Ha MI! 'Don't give uuup on me baaaby...'

soapbox · 21/06/2004 21:31

Hmmmm snogging under the table - interesting idea - would have to get really bladdered to think about doing that - then again your'e only 40 once
