something for the Mum? and then just a small present - bath toy / book? for the baby?

Pidge · 16/06/2004 12:50

I'm only a mum of one so far, but one of the nicest gifts we got was a box of food treats, choclately things, cakes and biscuits for serving to visitors, some nice tea or coffee beans, or something like elderflower cordial for summer.

survivour · 16/06/2004 12:52

A little basket of goodies, chocolates for mum, and nappies, wipes and powder for the baby, minitures are best, so much easier to carry about.

Thomcat · 16/06/2004 12:56

I did a box of goodies with her number 2 and she did love it, maybe I'll just do it again but with different bits in it, okay, thanks.

Not sure if allowed to contribute to thread as mother of one best present I received was a box of Thornton's chocolates, a disposable camera and a nice photo album and box of mounts.
Clothes wise - a pair of plain leggings/trousers that will go with everything is always handy - everyone is far keener to buy nice t-shirts - which are the worst possible thing for a stroppy new born! Or bibs/socks/mitts/hats?

busybee123 · 16/06/2004 13:35

when i had my third, i had a basket of goodies from inlaws with minature smellies, socks, nail stuff and chocolates. I also had a baby gro bag which is the best thing ever!!!. DH bought me a white gold and diamond eternity ring.

lou33 · 16/06/2004 13:38

A photo shoot for all of her children together to welcome the new baby or one including her and partner too if they would prefer.I'm a photo freak and the best thing i received was a selection of funky frames for photos of the new bubs with her brothers. Also like the vouchers ffor sitting idea.

Tortington · 18/06/2004 00:16

money! everyone knew we were skint and saved our pride by saying buy somthing for the baby - we did..heating lol!

clary · 18/06/2004 01:08

Lots of great ideas here, esp like that photoshoot one Loobie. Of course if you have a girl after 2 boys or vice versa then clothes are good...best things I got bizarrely were some nice bibs, was surprised how useful as those used by DS1 and DD were a bit manky to say the least! Also yes socks/summer hats you always need. Also with DS2 as he was April to the other 2's June I had to beg and borrow some tiny warm things for him poor soul as all i had in newborn was a few vests and the odd 'gro. Yes and got a lot of summer outfits in the right size (ie a bit bigger) which were v useful too. In fact was surprised how many things I did get, thought no-one would bother and was really touched (sniff...where is that tearful-but-happy smiley???)

webmum · 18/06/2004 10:45

To mothers of 2 or more I've given photoalbums, baby books (as you need a new one each time), an electric baby swing ( as I thougt they would never buy one as too expensive and would help the mum to have free hands)

codswallop · 18/06/2004 10:48

yes and agree re bibs socks adn stuff.
ds3 was born int he spring and the others were autumn so all the aged 1 clothees didnt fit ds3 - so think about hat
what bout something personalised - hios brothers wil ove that - saw a nice chair on .. hmm was it letterbox or Urchin...

codswallop · 18/06/2004 10:48

oh and re swing

alamel · 18/06/2004 20:12

I'm afraid I haven't any new gift ideas to suggest (although SIL with 3 children loves their trampoline but maybe very expensive?) but just wanted to thank codswallop for mention of Urchin and Letterbox. I'd never heard of them before but they look really useful sites for toys. Maybe we should have a thread swapping ideas of useful sites. I'm sick of early learning centre and toys r us!

tassis · 19/06/2004 20:22

Bibs are a great idea! I only have ds, but already (14 months) his bibs are grotty and I'd definately want new ones for a 2nd. Any tips for getting the stains off or is life too short?

ionaming · 19/06/2004 22:31

Apparently soaking them in a solution of Milton sterilizing fluid does the trick. I'm not sure of the details, but I guess there would be instructions on the bottle?

ionaming · 19/06/2004 22:35

As for gift ideas, one of the best ones I received was our "dinner" for the evening after the birth! A friend came round with an M&S bag stuffed full of snacks, choccies & a huge microwaveable meal to save us cooking that day!
