.............Anyone got an old VW Beetle/ other Classic Car? Car seat question.......................

I've just got a 1971 VW Beetle, we're having inertia seatbelts fitted in the back seats tomorrow.

How do I find which car seats are compatible for it? I've looked at the Britax site for example but they don't cover Beetles this old (although I have emailed them).

DS is 2.7 yrs old and weighs approx. 13 kg. The Beetle will be our second car so not used daily with the children but obviously I'd like a car seat that is safe for DS and will "grow" with him. DD is 7 so has a booster seat so no problem there.

Thanks

Consuted Dh on this one, (classic car fanatic extraordinaire). He suggests contacting a VW owners club. They might be able to trawl round their members for an answer.

Other than that, try to persuade a car seat supplier to let you try them first? (His suggestion, not mine! Can't see that being easy.)

will ask dh - he had a 1971 beetle for ages (his and my birthyear!) it was lovely, it was called Blossom...

I drive a classic car as my daily driver - it's a Morris Minor and I can fit 2 car seats in the back, no problem.

The best way is IMO is to go to a shop and ask to try the car seats. The car seat manufacturers don't know about classic cars and the classic car enthusiasts don't know about children!

I have a mini - an old mini. I had issues with the size that the chasis of pushchairs fold to, and found Mothercare at one of those out of town retail park things very helpful. They would try the carseat in your car (they did that for a couple of people while I was there). I think Halfords would do the same.

Once knew what I want I went and bought the Zap on Ebay of course...

Thanks for that everyone -I think I'll take a trip to Halfords (our nearest carseat place) as they fit and advise I think. Failing that we'll have to trek further afield.
