Anyone know how to get Metanium out of clothes?

Ds2 gave me a lovely bare botttomed metanium 'kiss' on the knee of my trousers. Nice. Chucked them in the wash without thinking, so have probably set it. But any chance I can remove it?

Ah - the only way I know how to do it would only work if you hadn't washed them.

Next time, sprinkle talcum powder over the mark, leave it for a couple of hours to soak up the offending mess, then brush it off before putting it in the washing machine.

I think you've probably set the stain now, although you could try rubbing in some neat washing up liquid and washing it again.

what is metanium? could profer a guess if I knew what you were talking about.

The other thing to try would be Swarfega - it's very good for shifting greasy stains. Rub it on, work it in, bung it in the washing machine.

I've used it to shift paint on clothes that have already been washed, so you might have a chance.

Metanium is a nappy cream, DT.

What's Swarfega? Probably some fab British thing? Am in Oz. But thanks for the talcum powder tip, will definitely try it next time.

Swarfega is a degreaser, mechanics (etc) use it to get the oil from their hands. It looks a bit like dark green jelly.

I've never had any problem with Metanium washing out of things. Just do a normal wash. Hope you've got nice clean trousers now

Bouj · 11/02/2007 11:20

Nope, stain is very much there. Luckily the trousers were cheap ones, but still, I liked them! Will be usual slovenly self, I imagine, and still wear them!
