I bought a beanie baby cat on e-bay (still with tag on so as new) and it arrived today. It really smells of cigarette smoke. It is not washable - any ideas as to how best to get rid of the smell of smoke?

Also, it arrived really quickly so that is good but on leaving feedback should I mention the smell? It is from a power seller who sells loads of beanie babies?

I bought this for my dd2 (13months old) so a bit annoyed really!

I think you should mention it.

Can you hang it on the line to air it?

Jenski · 09/02/2007 11:18

Yes I could just air it I suppose. I think I have a really strong sense of smell!

Having smoked when I was younger, I am now the biggest anti-smoker!

No I dont think you should mention it on feedback.

Generally, unless the selller stated "from a smoke-free home" you should presume that it might smell of smoke.

I'm sure the seller would give you a refund if you are not happy. But leaving negative feedback doesn't give them a chance to put it right.

I had this with a new item of kids' clothing from Ebay, I gave positive feedback and just wrote 'nice product, fast service but strong smell of cigarettes.' People who smoke in their own homes quite often forget just how much they stink, s/he might start taking more care of the stock.

i have washed beanies before.

Or put it in a tumble dryer for a short period of time. The hot air removes the smoke smell quite quickly...

bit of febreze then hang outside for best part of a day should get rid of the smell
