Has anyone actually managed to use their Tesco clubcard vouchers to book a hotel room (long!)?

Because I am throughly disillusioned with how bloody complicated the process is. Seemed simple in theory: we have lots and lots of vouchers; in September it is our 10th wedding anniversary; I would book us a weekend at a hotel in Cardiff (where we met) and pay for it with said vouchers.

There are 3 hotel chains which accept vouchers and have hotels in Cardiff. Two say they have "taken their allocated number of Clubcard Deals vouchers". That leaves the Hilton (which I thought was kind of cool - leave in 1991 as penniless students, come back 2007 and stay in the Hilton ).

The Hilton say yes they still accept Tesco Clubcard vouchers - until the 30th April. They quote me their Fully Flexible rates (exorbitant, but vouchers will cover it). I exchange Tesco vouchers for Hilton vouchers (haven't received them yet).

Apparently I have to book the room using a special promotional code, write my booking code on my Hilton vouchers, send said vouchers within 7 days and by recorded Delivery to Hilton HQ, and they will then send me a different voucher and a covering letter which I take to the hotel with me to 'pay' with.

Still with me?

Only now I've cashed in my Tesco vouchers I find that actually I can't book as far ahead as September (only 30th April - I misunderstood that bit, which isn't surprising as it's so damn complicated).

What is the likelihood of them still accepting my vouchers in September (bearing in mind the other hotel chains are refusing them in February)?

Am I going to end up with £300 of Hilton vouchers and nowhere that will take them?

I've really got my heart set on Cardiff now - feel all excited and nostalgic at the thought of going back after 16 years...

You have my sympathies-every time I have tried to book a hotel with my vouchers they never have the allocated rooms available.I have already sent my vouchers back to Tesco once to get them validated for longer but think I will give up and use them for something else.

No help I am afraid but good luck.

No I havent, sounds complicated, but if it all goes pear shaped you can return the vouchers to tescos and they will credit the points back to your account. So breathe easier knowing that

Thanks for that, Whooooosh and charliecat - I didn't know you could send them back if you don't (can't!) use them - that's reassuring at least.

I'm not going to get my romantic weekend in Cardiff, am I?

We've done it but only by converting our tesco points to airmiles.....?

I've used Tesco vouchers for a hotel room. In fact, a number of times. Usually use a Marriott -- even used a couple in London. Even the Renaissance Chancery Court once (which I think we were the first to use them.) The process wasn't as complicated for them. We exchanged the vouchers and just called and booked really. Give in the Tesco vouchers at the front desk at check-in.

Sorry to hear you are having such a time with it.....
