particularly if you've got the children with you?
do you listen to 'wheels on the bus' 20 times, story tapes or do you just have 'adult' radio or music on?

radio 2, unless children want Spot on or something

Slink · 11/06/2004 19:24

DD will listen to Damiel Beddingfield if i am driving or Elvis if DH is driving, and if we want her to sleep on a journey we play wheels on the bus.

dido at the moment, but we have a new cd with old skool club anthems which brings some memories.dd especially likes didos album, she sings some of them at the top of her voice!

bea · 11/06/2004 21:31

it used to be only ELC - songs for sea and sky (we actually like this one!), Tumble Tots (eekk!!! the worst of the lot... where i have made many comedy alterations to lyrics!!), Ladybird Nursery Rhymes, and dd's favourite her Christmas Tape (yes! mid June and she 's still singing away in a Manger at the top of her voice!)... but recently she has actaully asked for mums and dads tapes (belle and sebastian being a favourite!) and can hum the archers theme tune quite well now! Hooorah! quite mixed and eclectic!!! which is the way we like it!

ds always asks for "Paddy music" in the car which is my brother-in-law's hardcore punk band.... dp is very proud! I get told off if I have the temerity to put Radio 4 on, but ds is quite happy to listen to most music though doesn't like the gaps between songs.

Slinky · 11/06/2004 21:50

Usually "Vibe FM", although DS1 often requests Justin Timberlakes CD. All 3 love Abba.

This week though we have mainly been listening to "Red Hot Chilli Peppers" in preparation for mine and DHs attendance at their concert next week

willow2 · 11/06/2004 22:44

Blink 182, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Busted, Feeder, Aqualung, Delays... if ds (4) is calling the shots.

Politically incorrect rap if he's not in the backseat.

I absolutley hate having music in the car when I am with my children - at least for the first half an hour.

When we first get in the car, the adreneline is pumping away, due to the rigours of getting all three of us out of the house intact with all our stuff. The 10 minutes before we get into the car involve me issuing anything from mild reminders to wild screams. I need silence to regain my equlibrium and get into a good, safe driving frame of mind. This is not the time for loud noise.

After a dose of silence, I need to talk to my sons, explain, admonish, apologise if I lost my cool unduly. Then once justice has been done for all, I need to set the mood for the rest of the journey by generally chatting to both sons. And when we are all reasonalby content, and only then, do I put on some music. Takes half an hour usually.

Always Radio 2 or Radio 4 if it's me, DH brings adult music tapes. We've only got a couple of children's tapes which we've been given. They're not encouraged to listen to them at home on their own, so they're not going to be encouraged to have them in the car! When their a bit older I wouldn't mind proper stories (Roald Dahl etc), as long as they don't insist on repeats. Ds1 (5) recently got a walkman: that's the answer for me. Very good for long journeys.

Katie Rocket, my DH bought The Streets album last week and know what you mean about the strange addiction - def not one you can have on with kids in the car though!!!! We always have adult music but sometime let DD (6) put on one of her favourites, at the mo Atomic Kitten (yeuch) or Avril Lavigne(sp?). Our music varies according to mood - sometimes Simon&Garfunkle if mellow as kids love this too or at moment, DH into Franz Ferdinand so this is on cd player loads. Oh and Bowie and must tell you that WE WENT TO SEE BOWIE LAST NIGHT AT AMSTERDAM ARENA AND HE WAS BLOODY BRILLIANT AND VERY, VERY FIT!!!!!

Did you all get that?????

Mixture of singalong tapes, radios 2 or 4, and tapes of whatever's lying around. We're having rare and classic northern soul this week, which is going down well with the boys, but they have a tendency to nap during the Faithless album.
Dp puts on John Spencer Blues Explosion for them, which has gone down a storm.
And I too have caught myself singing along to Three Little Ducks without a single child in the car.

Blinking Hi-5 over and over and over and over again!

musica · 14/06/2004 21:42

Would you believe, a CBeebies tape (well sort of) - it's a tape of all childrens theme tunes - things like Bob the Builder (the chart version), tellytubbies, various tweenie songs, Fireman Sam, but also some oldies like the Wombles and the Snowman. There's no escape from CBeebies...

lou33 · 14/06/2004 21:49

I refuse to have kiddie tunes in the car. So it's all stuff we like. Maroon 5, N.E.R.D, RHCP, various put together compilations...

Piffleoffagus · 14/06/2004 21:52

radio 2 radio 4, cd's radio 5
