Wedding guest - hair/hat advice needed! Apologies for such obsessing when there are starving people in the world

Right, I'm going to a wedding of some friends in a couple of weeks. Am doing a reading which I've written, so want to look good. This is first big do since ds was born - am not quite back to slight size 14 I was and am more of a 'robust' 14!

Have sorted out dress, which I love. A beaded number from Principles. Strappy - so will be getting strapless bra (oh, the extravagance on my boobs, rather than the grey, breast-feeding rags I tie on every day). As if by magic, M&S had a matching bag and kitten-heel sandals IN MY SIZE!!! (8). Even have range of matching jewellery to try out.

Remaining dilemma is hair. Until recently I had very long, blond highlighted hair. Got sick of not having time to do anything with it and ds was always tugging/eating/being sick in it. So got it all cut off. Inch long on top and v short at back. I love it. But now I don't know what to do for the wedding.

God, this is vain but I'm going to continue anyway....

Today I had my sunglasses on top of my head and I noticed that it made my hair look A LOT better. So think it would be good to wear something in my hair. But don't really think a hat is right - just too much. So what can you wear in your hair? I have a hunch that a tiara might be a bit over the top. Is there something else????

I've been away from the world of fashion for what seems an eternity, not a pregnancy. HELP!!!

I always wear a feather head piece (live in USA so A. can't buy nice hats here - they don't have a clue and B.easier to transport a very small box than a massive hat)...Cherry Chau make lovely ones, you can get them at Harvey Nicks in London (and I expect in Leeds & Edinburgh too). 30 - 50 quid depending on size and complecity of design. IME looks on top of head, slightly to one side with a bit of the feathery bit coming towards face (buy just IME!).

Agree with the feathers or a fabric flower - Accessorize do some really nice things like this to put in your hair. (I bought one from Harvey Nicks and spilt a drink on it and it now looks like a dead budgie so decided it wasn't worth the money!) Or if you are handy the haberdashery deparmnet in John Lewis do fancy things you can fix on to a plain slide or head band.
