We currently have a George Cross flying from the front bedroom window and a car flag courtesy of my footie mad dh & ds2. I wouldn't otherwise think about 'flying the flag' and was wondering what others thought - as a nation should we be more patriotic?

Toothache · 14/06/2004 09:36

Fio2.... disgusting perhaps.... but decidedly more patriotic this morning.

Fio2 · 14/06/2004 09:40

pah!

Frenchgirl · 14/06/2004 09:40

I am going to wear my stripy top and beret today and walk around with a baguette under my arm and a string of onions round my neck

Toothache · 14/06/2004 09:45

lol FG.

My poor DH had to go stand in the Kitchen for 10 mins after the game to compose himself. He was very upset to say the least. However, he has put it into perspective now and it was only the 1st game...

DID YOU HEAR WHAT THE ENGLAND FANS WERE SINGING AFTER THEY SCORED???????

"Are you Scotland in disguise?"

And they wonder why the majority of Scots don't support them through these competitions?? I was hoping England did well up until that point. HMPH!

juniper68 · 14/06/2004 09:48

Awww is that what they were singing? Ok i'll admit this now but don't hate me I am a really nice person.

I laughed so loud when England lost and I'm English.

frenchgirl

England are so stupid. I find it so frustrating. Every single match they are the same. They score a goal and then just defned for the rest of the game. They deserve everything they get. I was so angry with them. But I pmsl at fantasy football

juniper68 · 14/06/2004 09:51

I missed fantasy, we had most haunted on. Plus DH was taping it for his mum so I couldn't even tape fantasy. I wonder if it's repeated?

Toothache, this is taken from the BBC Scotland news page:

Hamish Husband, spokesman for the Association of Tartan Army Clubs, says England games should be ignored.

This is his logic. In every tournament Scotland supporters watch England to see them lose - but usually they win, and that spoils everyone's night.

So instead, Mr Morrison's suggestion is this: "Pick two teams, pick one of the best teams and one of the lowly teams.

"This year the best choice is Latvia. If England are playing that team, then watch it, but if they're not then ignore them, don't get all emotional, just walk away."

You're supposed to be ignoring us!!

Toothache · 14/06/2004 10:05

lol Tissy - Very hard when I'm married to a Scouser and my Dad supports England.

I have become more and more interested in seeing England win since meeting DH. And the fact my DS was walking around Tescos last night shouting "ROONEY" at the top of his voice didn't help.

But I do hate those horrible football songs when we're always being slated for not supporting the only home country left in the competition. NO WONDER!!!

My son had a dream in 1998 and woke up (we co slept at that stage) and said mummy are France going to win the world cup, he was 4 yrs old and knew nothing about football... having just got off the plane from NZ...
So little old me, thinking Brazil et al would win, ignored him... then when I saw Fr play first game, decided to plonk my very meagre diposable cash on them to win, was about 18-1 at the time, I put on about £700.
Needless to say I support Fr to this day and so does my son... money talks
Still think England played very well, enough to still win the tourney perhaps... Ill discipline cost them the game...

Tissy · 14/06/2004 10:21

Piffleoffagus, who does your son tip this time?

juniper68 · 14/06/2004 10:23

wow piffleoffagus

Frenchgirl · 14/06/2004 10:38
