DD1 (sometimes known as tuesdayafternoon) has just rung me from uni to say that she has got a 2.1!

Her housemates are jumping up and down but she is feeling a bit "is that it?" - some encouraging words, anybody? (she has never graduated before! )

hoxtonchick · 10/06/2004 23:48

well done

Well done Janh's DD! Fantastic news!

Isn't Mumsnet great? ... from fertility issues to members' children getting degrees ... wow ... the circle of life and all that ...
Now, who is going to be Mumsnet's first Grandma??

expatkat · 11/06/2004 06:07

Tee hee, Janh, there you go with the lingo again! 2.1? Desmond? But it sounds fantastic. (I did get the fact that she's graduating!) Congratulations to her and you!

Gingerbear · 11/06/2004 07:55

I remember feeling 'Is that it?' when I got my 2.1
Closely followed by 'Now what do I do', even though I went straight on to do a masters, I really didn't know what I wanted to do with my life.
She needs a special party to mark the event. The degree course I did finished after everyone else at Uni, so most of the celebrations were over with, but our group had a big party and another one after the graduation ceremony.

Congratulations to your daughter Jan

Expatkat - UK derees are classed in the following order:

Honours Degree - 1st, 2nd class:upper division (i.e. a 2.1), 2nd class:lower division (a 2.2, aka a desmond - As in Desmond Tutu), and 3rd class

then there is Ordinary degree, which is lower than the honours degree.

Thank you very much for all your congratulations and advice... I'm very touched that so many people I've never met are so pleased for me!

I will, of course, be going out and celebrating madly, especially as I've been abstaining for the past three years

Thanks once again, love Miss Janh Jr BA (it sounds brilliant when you actually pronounce the BA "bah" - try it!)

Hey, I missed this earlier, but congratulations Janh Jr BA and Janh of course, for bringing you up so well

eddm · 11/06/2004 23:10

Congratulations Janh Jr BA and well done Janh too. Tuesday afternoon, make sure you go out and celebrate after the graduation ceremony. I didn't arrange things very well and ended up having dinner with dh and my mum. They are lovely but I missed my last chance to celebrate with everyone...

How wonderful. Well done to your baby with the BA, janh.
