Driving test

I have my third test in 3 weeks and I already feel ill with nerves.

First test I failed with 6 minors and one serious for giving way to traffic when I shouldnt have, second test I failed with 2 minors and 1 serious for nearly going down a one way street (oops) because I panicked.

This next test is my last chance before I move to America for a year. If I don't pass i'll have to do my lessons all over again when I come home as well as my theory as it will run out while i'm away. Been having lessons for close to a year now (first test in February, second in May as test waiting times are so long).

Does anyone else feel like they will never pass? I just can't see it ever happening and its so disheartening failing isn't it? can't wait until this is all over!

If I fail the end of this month i'm thinking of trying to do a residential crash course before I go away (beginning of Nov), has anyone ever done one of these?

I thought DD would never pass, took her nearly 2 years in the end although university and A-levels got in the way of managing the dates. Anyway she passed third time - good luck for your test.

Mind you, maybe she shouldn't have passed, she has bumped the car twice since.

Oh Pink, I'm gutted for you, I know it's disheartening, but try not to feel too down about it, I need to take my own advice - I'm still reeling from my 2nd fail 2 days ago.

It's a bugger isn't it, a lot to do with luck on the day as well. On my first test my examiner just told me to pull up on the left in a suitable place. On my 2nd test the examiner told me the same but he was more laid back & told me where to pull up & not to worry about driveways! So it depends on examiners as well - one examiners minor may be another's serious - iukwim? It just has to be that one test when everything falls into place, right examiner a pot of luck & oh doing things right! I've heard people who've passed & they had a bay park & gone over the line - or a turn in the road & they touched the curb, another examiner & they wouldn't of passed, so many factors.

I'm pondering if I should have a go with another instructor? As a my sil's friend has recently started learning & boasted after 6 lessons her instructor said she's test ready!

User, good luck for tomorrow - I'm cheering you on!!

Good luck!! It took me 7 goes, and I started to feel like I'd never do it. After failing the 6th one I took a long break of about a year as my theory expired too. Eventually I came back to it, got a new teacher who was much better suited to me, redid my theory, and booked another practical. I passed that one, the first one with that teacher, and with zero faults not even 1 minor! I never would have imagined that result!! Sometimes you need a bit of time out and come back to it refreshed - once I'd failed a few times I felt so disheartened and miserable!
You will do it eventually, and it will all be worth it!

Thank you! Thought I had failed in the first five minutes as I stalled twice!!! In the middle of a roundabout haha, but i ended up passing with 2 minors. I'm insured now so my mum is taking me on the motorway tonight-first trip is to Asda :')

Well done OP

Get your license sent off and hope it comes back quickly as you may then also be able to hire a car while in the US if you need to

Queenbean · 29/09/2016 15:08

Well done OP!!

When I passed they took my provisional off me there and then and gave me a certificate to use instead. Check online to see if you can use it overseas or not.

user1471522161 · 29/09/2016 15:57

Thanks everyone! They took my provisional and said that my new license should arrive before I go!

I had a panic after the stalling incident and pulled over telling the examiner I wanted to go back to the test centre because I knew I'd failed. She said its up to me but the decision is down to her whether I pass or fail. I ended up carrying on, the stalling was only a minor even though it was my own fault and I did it twice, she said I dealt with it safely. I then picked up one more fault for hesitation. My advice for anyone taking tests-never assume you have failed!

It took me THIRTEEN attempts just to pass my theory test. I failed by one mark pretty much every single time. Eventually DH drove me round the city we live in for hours on end while DC had naps in the car and tested me on every single thing such as road signs, stopping distances etc until it was drummed into me. Then he dropped me outside the test centre, and his exact words were "if you fail again I'm not coming to get you".
It bloody worked I got 100%.
It took me 3 attempts to pass practical, 4 technically but on one test I was so nervous I forgot to take my provisional!!
First test I failed was with 0 minors and 1 dangerous because I cut infront of a car at a roundabout
Second I failed was with a woman who failed me at her discretion because she felt I hesitated to much and wasn't confident enough to be safe on the road
Third test I finally passed with 1 minor, was with the same woman, and she could see that id put the effort in and worked on everything shed said in previous test. I literally grabbed her face and gave her a kiss on the lips when she said id passed! 😆
I didn't tell DH about 3rd test as I didn't think id pass again, best feeling ever ringing him up saying "well I'm not taking another driving lesson ever again. I'm sorry but I'm not"
He tried to calm me down and say its ok thinking id had a bad lesson, then when I told him he passed he did a whoopoo noise and came home with champagne!
