She is going to one with my Gran for her 80th birthday.

She is crap at costumes and has given me the job.

What on earth do you wear to an Old Time Music Hall?

Thanks

A ridiculous hat, long-ish full skirt, bodice/blouse, shawl, victorian boots

Oati · 29/01/2007 17:19

what Foxtrot said - Victorian/Edwardian dress

MrsBadger · 29/01/2007 17:19

a Pearly Queen?

agree large hat with feather, victorian-type blouse, long skirt, little boots.

northerner · 29/01/2007 17:20

Ok thanks. I will start trawling the charity shops.

Could be tricky!!

Probably cheaper to hire a costume. I have to do this for shows several times a year.

If you can find a few Am-Dram groups near you one of them may well have a cheap hire facility.

Big hat and shawl essential, and will distract from everything underneath. Ooh, how about a frilly petticoat peeping out and some mad fishnet or stripy tights?

northerner · 29/01/2007 17:25

She is a size 24 though, they may not have any in larger lady sizes?

Good idea though. I'll try them.

If not, could she get away with hat, shawl and feather boa?

Feather boa is an excellent idea

a show in full swing!

Oati · 29/01/2007 17:33

how about this blouse ? - change the colour to cream

this website lists loads of Am Dram groups across the country.

I should think they'd have larger sizes. Have you seen some of the women who play teenage girls in G&S Operettas?
