dd has put on 1.5kgs in 2 months since being taken off wheat at the end of last year!

She was 10.5kgs when the doc weighed her when referring her to paediatrics.... the same weight she was at one year. She had her 2 year check today and is 12 kgs... 50th centile for her age and perfectly normal!

I am so relieved as not only does it mean we did the right thing cutting out wheat, it means she probably isn't coeliac either

Public Health Nurse was lovely and referred her to a dietitian and will chase up her paeds referral for me too.

Not only that she's organising a meet-up of moms with babies the same age as my ds in my area so i might have some rl mom friends too.

I've never come out of a health check feeling so happy before!

Thats great news

It must have been such a worry for you.

Quick question, If she's done better without the wheat how does that mean she's not coeliac?? I thought that was what coeliac was.

PinkTulips · 29/01/2007 12:20

thanks Feathers..... this has made such a differance, especially after that crap with my mom last month.

thanks too tinkerbel

Thats really wonderful Pink.

PinkTulips · 29/01/2007 12:22

coeliac is gluten intolerance.

wheat contains gluten... more than most other foods but many other grains such as oats, barley, rye, etc all contain lesser amounts of gluten too. as her diet still contains all these it's safe to presume that it's less likely gluten is the cause... hopefully anyway!

Oh ok, thanks.

PinkTulips · 29/01/2007 12:24

lol... i'm shaking with the relief of it. WHen the doctor weighed her in DEc and i realised she weighed the same as she had at one year my world crumbled a little... i was so worried about her.

The nusre said she does look a little anamic but the dietician should be able to help with that i hope

I'm really pleased. Having children just turn us into bags of nerves and worry doesn't it?

PinkTulips · 29/01/2007 13:02

god yes! i was always a little neurotic but it reached new and unanticipated peaks since having dd!

i'll be pleased about this for a few more hours and then start freaking out about the anaemia!

HURRAH!

Spidermama · 29/01/2007 20:52

That's great news PinkTulips.

Isn't it amazing how much wheat we all eat when you're forced to examine it in this way.

Mercifully it's a growth industry and there are lots of great wheat free alternatives out there now.

Fireflyfairy2 · 29/01/2007 20:54

That's great news PT

PinkTulips · 29/01/2007 22:01

Thanks all, am still grinnning like a loon.

Spidermama.... i couldn't believe it when we first started her on this diet! Pretty much every single food she ate was loaded with wheat.... fgs, even oatabix have wheat in them

It's been good for all of us though, you wouldn't believe how much healthier we're eating now that i'm forced to get off my bum and cook from scratch! And the change in her mood was enough to convince me even without todays news about the weight gain
