I heard recently that Ray Mear's wife had died suddenly and recently although when I google it nothing much comes up.

He isn't very old so thought this very sad, anyone know what she died from?

Also noticed that Harry Hill made a joke on his show about Ray Mear's wife cooking the tea and showed a clip of a woman smashing at a load of plants and thought they obviously hadn't researched that very well.

didn't know that... poor man if it's true

belgo · 28/01/2007 14:28

I have just spent the last few minutes googling it, ans it's hard to find, but there was a reference to her death from cancer in May here very sad if it's true.

FFS thought that said 'mears' then .. please be careful

don't know who ray mears is

belgo · 28/01/2007 14:31

he's a survival expert, and regularly has programmes on BBC 2, he's fascinating to watch, he has a huge amount of knowledge and seems very nice as well.

I totally adore ray Mears, DH said I could have him in my harem if he responded to my proposal...sigh.

I didn't know he wqas married, I sort of assumed he wasn't.

How sad.

i heard that his wife had died. i got the feeling that he made his current programme after she died. he seems more serious and subdued in this series. i sort of hope he found solace in making the trips to Oz etc.

i really like him - so interesting.

I'm a huge Ray fan, which is ironic as I would no more dream of camping or roughing it, I just love watching him. I heard that his wife died of cancer in May too, actually I mentioned on here. Very sorry for him

ruty · 28/01/2007 15:33

what a shame. He's great.

roisin · 28/01/2007 15:39

I hadn't heard this either. Top marks to him for keeping his private life private.
(I'd kind of assumed he was single too.)

Dh spent a day with Ray Mears "walking in the woods" two years ago, and still talks about it all the time: a fabulous experience. We are big fans here.

Ah,he was in yesterday's Telegraph, describing his ideal weekend in which he referred to his 'late wife'/
Poor old Ray.

Hulababy · 28/01/2007 15:44

Article

Says that his girlfriend, and business partner, Rachel Dunn died after a long illness. Article dated 21st May 2006.

moondog · 28/01/2007 16:05

'died last week aged 50 after Ewan Macgregor'

Eh????

Hulababy · 28/01/2007 16:11

I think they have mergered two articles bymistake in that top paragrah.Think it should be dies aged 50...after a long illness.

SecondhandRose · 28/01/2007 17:36

Thanks, sad stuff. Not much to back from the woods for now I suppose.
