We were asked by our m/w last time did we want to keep it but as we couldn't think what to do with it we politely declined.
This time (please God hopefully soon) I'd like to know of some options in case we are offered again.
I promise I'm not taking the piss!
What did you you do with it?

Not had baby yet, but come May we're planning on burying it under the apple tree we were bought as a wedding present.

But I am a lentil weaver so that was to be expected really.

I don't know if I dare admit that DH is interested in cooking it 'just to see what it tastes like'.

That will not be happening.

SherlockLGJ · 27/01/2007 17:46

We had it with some fava beans and a nice chianti.........

BTW........I am taking the piss.

lulumama · 27/01/2007 17:47

you can make placenta essence with it before you dispose of it ..or cook it

the essence is supposed to be a good way to help with PND

have just posted a link on the other thread too!

lotus birth and placenta essence

misdee · 27/01/2007 17:47

i fried it with onions and served it to the in-laws.

lulumama · 27/01/2007 17:48

BTW...you can ask to keep it, don;t wait to be offered !

Glassofwine · 27/01/2007 17:48

Didn't keep any of mine, but would recommend you ask the mw to show it to you and explain the different parts - its fascinating.

I am due in March and I want to keep the placenta and plant it in a huge tub in the yard (so the dogs don't dig it up - eugh!) with a (perennial) plant in it, not decided what yet.

I did ponder eating it but dh nearly threw up at the very thought so that idea went out the window!!

foxtrot · 27/01/2007 17:51

sorry but - eugh!

lulumama · 27/01/2007 18:01

if you do, 3rdtriMOSSter..can i come and have a good look at it please ?

sorkycake · 27/01/2007 18:06

The m/w did show us all the bits to it and it was very interesting to see it, I don't know what I expected but it didn't look like I expected it too.
I may bury it then and plant something on top of it. That link is just stinkingly gross lulumama bleurghh! I'm all for each to their own but come on

wouldn't you rather be looking at your new baby? i know i did

lulumama · 27/01/2007 18:09

well, i guess each to their own....

i enjoyed looking at my placenta, it was amazing to see that and the sac that had nourished and kept my baby safe for 9 months....but i was distracted by the baby ...!

juicychops · 27/01/2007 18:42

i asked to touch mine, but a little poke was enough for me

Heathcliffscathy · 27/01/2007 18:56

it is in freezer awaiting huge tub with tree in it, that we can give to ds when he leaves home.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 27/01/2007 18:59

I watched one of those baby programs on Discovery health and one of the mums kept hers, cooked it and made it into a pate!
It actually looked quite nice when it was done.

3rdTriMossTer · 27/01/2007 19:43

Lulumama if you're quick of course you can come and look! But it'll be getting buried in a big tub quick smartish or dh will start narking on about it and wanting to get it out the house!!!
