dd wants to know what a Valentine is. She is 6.

Dh believes that as I am a girl I will know whether Valentines are just for boyfriends and girlfriends at this tender age, or whether dd can send one to me, her teacher or her best friend

I think at that age they can send them to anyone they like tbh.
I would say to her that Valentine's Day is a special day for people who love each other very much and that you send the person you love a card.
then she can choose if she wants to send one to someone

Given that Valentine is in fact the patron saint of platonic love, I think you can send a card to anyone you like anyway... I have, in the past, sent friendship Valentine's cards to very good male friends!

I thought Valentine was imprisoned, and sent a message to someone (girlfriend?), but couldn't sign it, as wasn't allowed contact with anyone.

Something like that anyway.....

agree, qat that age anyone and everyone (well withinh reason)
they sell 'class sets' of valentines in NA - and I remeber spending ages with girlfriends deciding which boys would get which design...
