icod I'm left handed but do most spots right handed, also play footbal right footed (ok maybe not now but did!)

I have no explanation why though!

Does he hold scissors in his right or left hand? What about knife and fork?

MegaLegs · 24/01/2007 13:32

My dad is left handed - he plays golf right hande. When he plays cricket he bats right handed but bowls left handed.

Two of my children write with their right hand but do everything else with their left.
I think the term is 'cross lateral'.

Marina · 24/01/2007 13:35

Degrees of handedness apparently
Am left-handed. Write, play tennis and fence (well, not currently due to being fat heifer with no spare time) left-handed.
Eat and play violin right-handed.
As pamina says it's good news really. Extreme left-handness is still very problematic IMO
Dd is right handed but brandishes and sort of uses scissors left handed.

DumbledoresGirl · 24/01/2007 13:35

My ds1 is LH and plays tennis RH too. I thought it was because he started tennis lessons when he was 5 and was too shy to tell the coach that he wanted to hold the racquet in his LH (the hold was demonstrated RH) bt he does nt have that excuse now he is 10. He does do some things RH eg sometimes eats RH, I think he used to use RH scissors - goodness knows why.

Dottydot · 24/01/2007 13:36

I'm left handed but play sports (ha, ha) right handed, knit right handed, use knife and fork like a right handed person - just write with my left hand!

noddyholder · 24/01/2007 13:36

My ds is lefthanded but plays guitar right handed I don't know why

Marina · 24/01/2007 13:37

Because that is how he has been taught I am guessing noddy - that is how I ended up "playing" the violin right-handed

jalopy · 24/01/2007 13:37

Icod, I'm hopeless at links. If you google 'cross lateral handedness' you'll get more information.

DumbledoresGirl · 24/01/2007 13:38

Do you not think that skills that have to be learnt eg tennis, guitar etc are done with the RH because they are demonstrated by a RH person?

DumbledoresGirl · 24/01/2007 13:39

Learnt from someone else I meant - demonstrated. Obviously writing is learnt but not demonstrated in the same way as say holding a guitar or racquet is.

fishie · 24/01/2007 13:40

most lefties don't do everything lh - i sew and use scissors rh. dh eats lh but is a righty. i am utterly and completely useless at any kind of sport with implements, prob because of hand confusion so it is good that he has chosen one.

fishie · 24/01/2007 13:41

ooh what hand does he use for computer mouse? most lhanders i know were directed to use rh and are v clumsy as a result.

I think that with instruments you wouldn't just 'learn' to do it right handed because the teacher is. If you ar eleft handed at somethgin, trying to do it right handed is really uncomfortable and vice versa.

Fishie did you know that you can swap mouse buttons over to left handed?

yesyes i am lh mouser the others all look at me blankly as they fumble with their rh mouse and bugger up their spreadsheets (for some reason there are loads of lh bods here).

Oati · 24/01/2007 13:50

dh is LH and used teh mouse in his LH - -not a good idea to swap the mouse buttons as it confuses other people who may use the pc ( technical support, wives, children etc)

Marina · 24/01/2007 13:50

You have me bang to rights cod !
